I like it, but I am totally spoiled by the Sunset Wester Garden Book (which is gorgeous with a wealth of information). This book has a lot of good information about planting seasons in the Bay Area, and has specific information based on where you live. I just wish it had better/more pictures, and that it was easier to navigate and find information.
The gardening information is fantastic; I am getting a home gardening up and running based on the authors advice. I only wish I had purchased the paper copy instead of the ebook. The ebook really fell short of my expectations. For example, the index does not have clickable links and no page numbers are listed! There were several other issues with charts and side bar items that made me wish I had purchased a physical copy.
For people gardening in the San Francisco Bay Area the problem with most gardening books is that they are too generic or geared toward a climate that is totally different than ours. We have moderate weather all year long that poses certain benefits and problems for the vegetable garden. This book is the answer. In addition to discussing the unique traits of Bay Area vegetable gardens it gives detailed guidance on pretty much any plant you would want to put in your vegetable garden and how to solve the specific problem we encounter in this part of California. If you want to keep your garden producing all year long this book will really help you do it.
Not sure if this is the most current version, so please check. If you live in the bay area and garden, this is a must have. I had mine signed by Pam Pierce - I have this one to my little friend Dex who belongs to a community garden through his school in SF.
This book tells me almost everything I need to know to start my first vegetable garden, from planning my garden to dealing with pests. I can't imagine a better all-around book for gardeners who live in the Bay Area or California coast. The information is all specific to local micro-climates, with no space wasted on information that is not relevant in this part of the country. My only criticism is that I would have left out the handful of recipes scattered in the book.
I love this book!! Great information for bay area gardeners. I bought it for my Organic Gardening and Food Production class at SRJC but I'm sure I'll be using it for years to come! It has everything, how to put together different kinds of composts, a planting guide, info on local pests and plant diseases, info on just about anything you'd want to put in your garden, and info on common weeds.
Chock full of details about when to plant, harvest etc. for the San Francisco Bay area.Sooooooooooo helpful. Great reference as well as explaining various things in great details that make sense and are easy to understand.
