I am coaching 6 year olds right now and the drills and discussions in this book don't really apply to the level of soccer these kids can comprehend. Otherwise it is a good reference and will come in handy as my kids get older.

Amazon is always amazing with their book rentals. I've never had any issues. This rating is the book itself. It's such a difficult read. The book is all print, no pictures and everything is in black and white. It would have been nice to have some pictures and interesting things to look at. The book has its interesting parts but overall I hated having to open it to read for class.

I've had great Kindle books before but this one was awful. Although it had all the information and the search engine was easy to use, it was truly difficult to connect to my lecture due to the fact that it did not provide accurate page numbers. The pages were off by number and visual. Please fix this and it'll be much better. Also, to the book-makers: this is the most BORING book ever.

This was required for my BSN studies. Really thick, heavy book that covers the numerous and varied areas of disaster and emergency response and preparedness quite thoroughly. Even my mom who's a cook found it interesting to look through.

I rented this book for a class in taking. Information is good. Only complaint is that the book itself is falling apart.

This is an intersting book, though I wish it was a bit heavier on technique and less a series of images with a brief blurb about each one. If you are looking to learn about Manga art tchniques/theory this isn't a great resource, however if you like this guys work and want a handsome book I'd say it's a great buy. The text is a little too simplistic and lacks any real executional detail to be of any real technical value, but I enjoyed reading it anyway.

I was hoping this book would feature more art and less prose, but I can't deny it is a very beautifully crafted book and it was very fascinating to read the process going on in Mark's mind as he created each of these illustrations.

Great book. I recommend it to any serious learner of Manta. There is a lot of reading that could turn a child off but an older kid or adult would love this book.

Mr Crilley is fantastic and this art is no exception. If you like manga style art then this belongs in your collection.

As a layman interested in all kinds of health issues, I found this book one of the best out there in terms of readability and credibility. But beyond that, even though I don't have multiple sclerosis, I felt an incredible sense of hopefulness for the friends and relatives who are suffering. Marie Rhodes did an exemplary job of presenting an unbiased look at the disease and the various treatments that are available, concentrating on the science behind the new procedure that addresses chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI). Basically, the procedure involves angioplasty to unplug pinched-off veins in the neck or chest, a condition typically found in MS patients--and the results have been astounding, not just "promising." Take the people who regained mobility and even personality just days after the procedure--I wanted to cheer! The procedure is so simple (and well documented for other conditions) that you have to wonder why patient activists have had to do battle to get the procedure for themselves or even to be tested. But things are changing, and the very existence of this book is part of the proof. Anyone with MS or their friends or relatives, must read it right away and make up their own minds. It's loaded with documentation that can be checked out, and the final section tells patients or their advocates how to access the resources they need. My guess is most people who have been diagnosed with MS are already aware of CCSVI, but this book explains everything in detail with lots of helpful phrases such as "This means. . . " and "The reason is that. . ." I never once felt left behind by Rhodes' careful explanations or the graphics that depict obvious principles or changes.

This is so easy to read with medical terms put into simple language and explained. Complications removed with use of common sense. Includes different and/or conflicting sides to each issue, as well as history, for a larger understanding. The science and the professional input is amazing and creates more facts than opinions. CCSVI and MS are mostly mysteries for health, and this book gave me a peace, as well as a piece(s) of mind, where I could not find them. Another example of how people who truly care, provide better and needed information.

I knew this was going to be an excellent book because I have heard Marie speak in Seattle - it still exceeded my expectations. I have had problems with reading comprehension my entire life, and wasn't sure I would be able to get much out of the book. To my surprise, this is another area that CCSVI treatment has helped - I savored every chapter. The summaries at the end of the chapters are invaluable. Since information on CCSVI is rapidly growing, I hope to see Marie update this book, or perhaps write another. I will buy whatever she writes about CCSVI.

Marie Rhodes does the heavy lifting of analyzing the history and science- such as it is- that has allowed MS researchers to focus so exclusively on the failed autoimmune model of MS. The theory presented by Ms. Rhodes is clearly laid out in plain english that is easy to follow. The second chapter focuses on the immunology and gets quite technical. Then the book returns to the easy-to-follow explanation of how and why CCSVI causes MS. I have read everything I can on CCSVI and MS since Dr. Zamboni published. For me, this book was a revelation, filling in the missing pieces and laying out the larger scientific argument in an approachable manner.This is an important reference as we begin the journey of discovery for imaging and treatment technology for CCSVI. I have already given one copy to an MS nurse who was eager to get it. Will buy more to spread the good news those I know who are affected by MS and their caregivers. Kudos Ms Rhodes. Well done!

As someone with MS, I was interested in learning more about CCSVI. Yes, this book has that, but it gave me the impression that I bought an in-depth sales brochure. I did not finish this book (yet). I do, however, believe that CCSVI should be studied more thoroughly as it may help with not only MS, but other diseases as well.

This is an excellent resource for anyone learning about CCSVI but frustrated with having to piece together information from the internet. Detailed explanation how the immune system works on the cellular level, and how venous malformations damage brain cells, causing the immune system clean up the damage. Good chronological history of the MS as a vascular disease, and the peer-reviewed studies that contributed CCSVI theory and current treatments. The book provides a balanced view on the issues that one should look at when considering evaluation or treatment for CCSVI, and includes many helpful resources.

Very thorough book, however, I think she stops one step short. There is a cause of CCSVI. Steroids, immune suppressants, toxic metals, vitamin D(without vitamin k2) calcify soft tissues such as valves of veins. Vitamin K2 (green pasture's butter oil) popped open my jugular veins without surgery. People with MS, I highly recommend solving the MS mystery by hal huggins if you have root canals, wisdom tooth extractions, or mercury fillings.

I pre-ordered this book and waited with anticipation for it's arrival. The book does not disappoint!!! Marie Rhodes is a nurse and an MS patient who knows first hand what MS can do to a person physically and emotionally. She shares her experience and the experience of other MS patients that underwent the CCSVI procedure and explains the research in layman's terms.Also, I just purchased the book for my Kindle too, that way I always have it with me and I can share my actual book with others who need insight into MS and the CCSVI procedure. Loved it! Minor unknown chapter of WWII narrated thru eyes of a 12 year-old girl and 13 year-old Jewish refugee boy. Broke my heart to learn that Canada and USA turned away ships full of people escaping from the Nazis! Story doesn't explain how US went from turning them away to its contemporary relationship with Israel...

This book is written from a very intimate perspective in that the characters each tell their own story as if they are speaking to the reader personally. I was a little surprised at first, when I opened the book, because it seemed as though it was more a book of poetry than a book of history. It is both. Beautifully written in elegant prose, this story could only have been told by someone who had experienced these events firsthand. I absolutely loved it and will go back and read it again. I usually give books away after I read them. Not this one; it is a keeper! I thank the author for giving us such a treasure.

Love this book. This book uses poetry to tell a unique story about the Holocaust and it focuses on a boy that was sent to Cuba in a ship that was supposed to go to the United States. It's told in a nice way from a child's perspective for the most part.

The unusual topic of the plight of Holocaust refugees is told from the perspective of several characters, each with a distinct voice. Engle's evocative language in this beautifully crafted story is an outstanding example of the novel in verse genre. Daniel is a young refugee who hopes to find his parents, but his sense of despair and lonliness as he arrives in Cuba is heartbreaking. His words pull the reader in from the fist page. Last year in Berlin, on the Night of Crystal, my grandfather was killed while I held his hand...How can hatred have such a beautiful name? Crystal should be clear, but on that night the glass of broken windows did not glitter. A reader cannot finish the page without a visceral response. Paloma is the daughter of a shipping Lord who controls the refugees and profits from their entry. She lives in the dovecoat of her castle, with the birds, sneakily helps the refugees, and longs for her mother who has abandoned the family. She befriends Daniel, along with David. David is also a Jewish refugee who has made a life selling ice cream in Cuba. Through their voices, the political dynamics of Cuba after the war are revealed. The backdrop of Cuban culture is also shared through descriptions of people, places, and cultural celebrations. With friendship and the passage of time, David begins to heal, and so does Paloma. This breathtaking book pays homage to refugees of Cuba and those who supported them. A beautiful young girl helps him to acclimate to the island life style, but she has her own reasons to want to escape. Daniel shares his fear of the horrors he left behind and his reluctance to embrace the island life through a series of poems in his voice. Paloma tells her story in poetry also as she tries to help Daniel and the other refugees despite the fact that her father is "El Gordo," the man who is keeping the other refugee ships from landing and who is threatening to send the refugees already in Cuba back to Germany. David, an old man who came to Cuba from Russia, and who is Jewish like Daniel, helps the two children as they learn to share their feelings and overcome their fears.The poems are haunting in their imagery and honesty. Each character speaks with a distinctive voice. Although the story has some action, it is mostly a novel of character. The reader gets to know each character and watch as Daniel and Paloma change and grow. This book is highly recommended for middle school and high school students who want a different Holocaust story. I wouldn't read it to a child because of its suggestive nature and it only has a few pages for adults.

I laughed every page of this book! So hilarious. If you can't tell by the title, it's not a children's book. Love the raunchy humor! Told a few friends to find it and read it, especially if you need a laugh. The next one should continue where this one ended. With the "ass". Lol

I would give this review zero stars if I could. This is not a legit book but rather some bound version of a combo typed/xerox copy of the original, made in the USA, San Bernardino, California, 25 June 2017, 3 days ago, upon my order apparently.This was going to be a gift for a 9 year old looking to engage further in chapter reading. No longer.I thought a rollicking pirate adventure, illustrated by N. C. Wyeth, might be fun. This poor replica is anything but fun...the cover is pixelated and the illustration plates are muddied grays, and I haven't even addressed how a 9-year old is going to try to read the disjointed copy spacing and chapter headings, as well as typos and misspellings. Please see photos.On top of this my copy was bent and sticky, go figure packing crew.100% dissatisfied long-term Amazon customer.

Excellent book; terrible quality edition that isn't at all as described. The cover is such a terrible quality copy it's clearly pixellated (attaching photo). The formatting inside is awful - hard to distinguish where new paragraphs start, spacing is all over the place.The editorial reviews quoted on the product listing refer to "easily accessible, bottom-of-the-page notes provide outstanding illumination of the text s literary and historical contexts, particularly biblical and nautical references that might otherwise elude modern readers. No other edition provides a better insight into the (sometimes murky) compositional processes behind this classic work of fiction." -- this is completely untrue, there are no notes at all. Another editorial review states "Sutherland finishes the edition with a series of puzzles and conundrums raised by the story; these are bound to stimulate discussion in a seminar setting." Also completely untrue, there is no appendix at all, the book simply finishes at the end of the story.I could produce a better quality edition of this book by self-publishing. Will be returning this book ASAP. Buy a different edition.

I just finished reading this terrific story on Kindle (ASIN: B00LP34EKI). Since Amazon lumps together all reviews for similarly titled products I've included the ASIN number so you know which version of this book I'm referring to. There are 10 illustrations and photos at the very end of the book. Only three are about this story with the rest being various photos of the author as a child, a young man, etc. You can do a lot better just by doing an image search "Treasure Island". I won't rehash the story here since it's quite well known by everyone already or at least the framework of the story is.Some of the nautical terms and pirate jargon in the story were unfamiliar to me and I found the CliffNotes Treasure Island Glossary to be very useful in understanding them. It defines terms like alow and aloft; assizes; dead-eye; my cock, as in rooster and meaning a fine young man (that one tripped me up for a few seconds) and many others. Amazon won't let me post a link to it so just do a search for "Full Glossary for Treasure Island - CliffsNotes". It'll probably be the first hit in the list and it's free.There are many images on the Web for Treasure Island. I did a Search for 'Treasure Island Map' and I found one that helped in getting a better idea of where action was taking place. I hope you enjoy the story and if you have young children why not read it aloud with them.By the way, if you want to see the film I highly recommend you watch the 1950 Disney version starring Robert Newton as Long John Silver. One RottenTomatoes critic said this; "Newton's Long John Silver is the ultimate buccaneer, a one-legged, squinty-eyed blackguard so piratical he even concludes a prayer with a hammy 'Ahhhhhrrrmen...'" And Silver could also be the most charming, silver-tongued devil around when it suited him.Enjoy

Treasure Island was written 130 years ago and it remains one of the great adventure tales of all time. I originally read it when I was about ten years old and, fifty years later, I recently re-read it in the Kindle edition. The fact that the book brings as much pleasure now as it did then is an indication of how good it really is. Stevenson truly hit the ball out of the park with this one.Much has been remarked in many of these critiques about the outdated language Stevenson used. In that regard, I have to say that the Kindle edition that I downloaded lacks one thing that was included in my old printed edition, which was published by MacMillan way back in 1924. The old edition has a set of notes following the text, explaining a lot of the nautical terms and old-fashioned jargon. It even includes the complete lyrics to "A Bottle of Rum". I never found those notes necessary but they might prove useful to some of the younger readers, to whom such language might be unfamiliar. Personally, I think the language is part of what has given this tale it's lasting appeal. In addition, I don't know whether 18th Century pirates really spoke the way Stevenson has them speak in Treasure Island, but there is no doubt that it is the way they will forever be remembered, "...and ye may lay to that, Matey"!

About the Author

Mark Beck had been a Milady author since the first publication of The Theory and Practice of Therapeutic Massage in 1988. Mark began his professional career as a massage therapist in 1974. He started teaching massage in 1978 and became a massage school owner and director in 1980. As school director for over 15 years, he developed curriculum, taught classes and continued a part time clinical practice. He served on the boards of a state and a national massage organization in different capacities including sec. of education, sec. of certification and president. In 1996 he earned a bachelor's degree in Vocational Education with an emphasis on massage therapy from the University of Idaho. A skiing accident in 1990 resulted in a C-6 spinal cord injury that landed Mark in a wheelchair with quadriplegia. That ended his active practice as a massage therapist but did not quell his dedication to the profession or his desire to provide the best possible information to thousands of students entering the profession by continually updating and refining The Theory and Practice of Therapeutic Massage. Mark continued to be an advocate for excellence in massage education and accessibility for the disabled until he sadly passed away in November 2016.
