Good concept for sure, but it seems the authors went out of their way to find technically drab photographs to emphasize quirkiness. Many if not most photographers in industry take stunning images that are equal to the best art and commercial photography, so why exactly the authors chose interesting subjects but technically pale images was probably to "art" it up, i.e. make sure it's not pretty. I doubt I will take it off my shelf for another look anytime soon, although it does inspire me to consider making off-beat installation like pictures. There are many compositions that inspire side stepping the predictable.

This is the document of a found photography project from the 70s. Apparently there is a current retrospective of it that attempts to put the works in a narrative framework. That is against the original intention of the project, but don't worry: there is no way to assemble a linear narrative, open to only one interpretation, from this work. The power of these photographs rests on two fundamentals: 1 - they are all found photos taken from corporate archives, not intended as art, and 2 - no caption, explanation, or context is offered. Any original contextualizing aspects have been carefully removed. What you are left with are some really enigmatic images of human activity. You may read criticism of technological society in some, but the artists very wisely avoid all overt "social commentary". Not only does this respect the intelligence of the audience, but it preserves the wonder implicit in most of these images. If I were to distill a "message" out of this work, it is: we are capable of astonishing ourselves simply by going about our business.

It's hard to decide what's more brilliant here: the images themselves, the archives they're tied to, the idea behind the project, or the methods the artists used (imitation "offical" letters of recommendation). But not only is this a great collection of images, it says a lot both about the military-inductrial complex of the '50s through '70s and how it represents itself. A smart book on every level, and the reprint contains some archive photos not included in the original book.

It is a classic. What else do you need to know. All lovers of photography and image editing should own this book or at the very least know about it.

My expectations were more than met, I received something that I will cherish til my dying days...The price was great compared to everyone else.

THERE IS MORE EVIDENCEFinally this is released again. While I have not seen the additional photos, I expect that this trove of non-art photos is without end ... (see Pinterest)! Personally, I was not aware that this endeavor was a touchstone of conceptual something. I can't remember if the original gave information, say in the back of the book,on what we are looking at. While it is one of the great human short comings to read the label BEFORE looking, context can also be a source of further enjoyment. My 2 cents: the conceptual approach, now recognized as an historical art approach, makes this book enshrined there. Perhaps it's just so much "smarty pants marketing." This relates back to a time when stoners turned off the sound to the TV to experience the visual without the wordy explanations, great! When this became a something more than human monkeys learning to just look and get it, I don't know, Calling it art,maybe is a way to wear fancy pants. While this is a great book to have back out there, may I suggest 2 books where we know who the photographer is, HIS vision (not the finders). JOE STEINMETZ with his iconic Tupperware parties (all at Yale). BUT above all there is the "TESTING" book by Consumers Union, with most of the photographs taken by Michael Miller. Subject of NY State Museum retrospective, curated by that wildcat curator L. Datene,1989? These are product testing photos, made iconic by the vision of Miller. They are are surreal, in place, logical but not giving up their mystery. It's been said, there is always more, yes, but I hope we will always find and celebrate the people that had a vision and encouraged the mystery. Mr. Davis,a previous reviewer (who possibly might have issues with my take) had a wonderful and memorable phrase, "we are capable of astonishing ourselves simply by going about our business." GREAT! This is all to say it's a good book, but worth thinking about! Thanks

This book is everything I hoped it would be. Great quality reproductions and as intriguing as I imagined it would be.

This book is adorable. We already owned "Veggies with Wedgies" and wanted this too. My 6 year old son was able to read this whole book to me, and he just got out of kindergarten, so the book is great for new readers. The words rhyme, are funny, and the pictures in this book are adorable. The tiny pea wearing tiny underwear will make you smile. A great book about all the types of underwear...clean, dirty, big, little, etc.

A very cute book for young children. We initially read it at the library and my girls were so sad to return it, I had to purchase it. My two year old and 4 year old love this book and can recite it by memory. They especially love the potato with his too small underwear.

I received the nicest thank you note and a video. Purchased for a friend's 4 year old. He loves it!!! they read it ever night and the four year old often "reads" it back to them. Successful gift. Funny book!

I buy multiple copies of this book to give out to my potty training students in my preschool classroom. The kiddos love how silly this book is & enjoy the idea of being a "big kid." If your child is needing some motivation for potty training, this is a good book you could add to your list.

After reading reviews I ordered this for a friend's grandson, he was just 2. His grandmother says he loves the book, wants to read it again and again. One or two reviews mentioned that it's great for the potty-training age. Mentioning it to my daughter with 2 adult sons, she laughed and said, "Oh yes, little boys would love to talk about underwear." Laughing is so good for any age.

I don't get it, because I'm not 2.5. But my kids think this book is HILARIOUS. I've since gifted another copy and I'll probably add it to the list I have of books to give as gifts.

This is such a cute and well done book. I love reading it so I know it won't get old when I read it the 100th time. Short sweet funny and informative!

My 4-year old grandson absolutely loves this book. I bought it on Kindle first, but ended up getting him the hard copy that he could carry around and read on his own. The illustrations are his favorite part! :-)

I am on a strict gluten free diet so can only eat foods containing pure almond or coconut flour (not even blended gluten free flour mixes). When I read through these recipes I realized that this book "Almond Flour & Coconut Flour Gluten Free Recipes" is falsely advertising the contents. For example on page 49 Summer Peach Cake recipe calls for 1/2 cup almond flour and 1 cup all purpose flour. Another recipe on page 51 Blackberry and Almond Coffee Cake calls for 1/2 cup almond flour and 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. There are also recipes referred to as Paleo free which really are not based on the ingredients listed. This book is poorly written and misleading. I regret purchasing it and do not recommend it.

Gluten Free or not this book offers up some interesting variables to time tested recipes. The Paleo Banana Bread and Potato Pancakes were delicious. Have not attempted other recipes but the almond flour brings a certain variance worth trying. My point is if you are looking for Gluten Free this book certainly offers you the opportunity and if you are not worried about Gluten it still makes for interesting recipes. Clearly the book gives you the nutrient values of almond flour and the recipes bear out a very acceptable alternative to the normally known creating of these recipes.

I was disappointed. The recipes are OK, but the coconut flour recipes are few and are not impressive. I would return it if it wasn't such a hassle to do so.

Really good recipes and family loves them!

Everything is all about the tools it takes to learn how to do better for yourself. Appreciated the knowledge I obtained from the book!

I've read the reviews that say it is unrealistic what they are asking parents to do. I disagree. I never thought my daughter could get this illness, she was smart, she was fit, an athlete who never had a body image problem in her life. When she got interested in healthy eating, was happy. When she started obsessing over recipes and cooking, I thought it was great. It seems like the next time I blinked she was a vegetarian, and then immediately she had all but stopped eating (but not her obsession with all things food). Panic does not describe what we went through for a week until she could be seen in Dr. Lock's clinic. She was hospitalized for almost two weeks while we learned everything we could about how to treat anorexia. After meeting with doctors, therapists, dieticians and educators, we were 100% convinced and committed to family based therapy. Both of us read this book cover to cover before she was released fromt he hospital. We sat with her practicing in the hospital and setting expectations for when she returned home. We had three things going for us: she hadn't been ill for long, we live in a region with access to excellent care, and we have a parent who could take time off work to save our daughter's life. It wasn't easy, but this therapy works. It makes perfect sense. My daughter has confirmed over and over that if we hadn't "taken over" she is sure she would never been able to get control of herself back. The light is back in her eyes, Her healthy brain is overriding the lingering anorexic thoughts, and she is almost back to full activity, although we will be carefully monitoring her for a long time to come. Please don't wait, if you are concerned about your child, read this book and take fast action. We tried meeting with a nutritionist and a general therapist first and in the weeks we lost in doing so, her health really eroded. It might be hard to prepare, sit through and monitor your child's eating five times a day for a few months, but it would be far more difficult to bury your baby. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of all mental illness, and you can't afford to try "easier" treatment first. Good luck, be strong.

If I could have ready only one book on eating disorders, this would be the one. It is undoubtedly the most important book I read and gave me insight into the disorder and provided me the guidance to seek the best treatment for my daughter.

If your child has any symptoms whatsoever of an eating disorder, this book MUST be your first and only stop. The Introduction alone says, in essence: They aren't doing this for attention. This is NOT your fault as a parent. There is not an easy answer, but as a parent you absolutely must be involved in helping your child overcome this disorder, because they can't do it without your help.For about 7 months, I let my daughter handle her own eating and exercising. She had been overweight, and dropped about 35 lbs in 3 months. She looked great, seemed happy, was involved in sports, had friends... But somewhere along the line, things started to slip. She stopped eating carbs at first, and ate a "healthy" diet. Then I caught her vomiting. She swore she was never going to do it again, and seemed to get better for awhile, but it kept cycling like that until we reached a point where she will only eat a couple certain foods that are safe. She can eat nothing besides those. Exercises every day. She gets straight A's, but she no longer has any friends and doesn't have a boyfriend either. She has thrown away everything, and all she knows how to do is restrict and purge and sit at home waiting for life to find her.And I tried to control it, and I took her to a counselor and a nutrition all specialist...and then I blamed her, and myself, and everyone around us... until in anger, I reached out to a clinic and found help in family based therapy. This book was in the lobby. PLEASE READ IT. There is hope in this approach. The counselor we saw initially knew nothing, she even seemed to make things worse.

Anorexia is a life-threatening disease. It can also cause many long-term health problems. If your child has an eating disorder, it is very important to get professional help, quickly. This book stresses that fact. It is not a self-help book, but it does help one to understand the disease and the long road to recovery. It also includes a list of clinics that specialize in teenage eating disorders.

This book was recommended by Dr's who are treating my daughter for anorexia. Very educational and informative and it helps the parents to identify EODs and recognize and gain understanding as to what is going on with their child. Read It !!!

Good info on eating disorders.

Very informative.

I have the original and there is not much change. But it is still a phenomenal resource to have!
