Joseph Bruchac's poems, articles and stories have appeared in over 500 publications, and he has authored more than 70 books for adults and children. This is a fine little collection of simply-rendered scares. While considered YA, the steeled adult will find them a delightful bedtime read, while the more sensitive grown-up might still get a chill. In addition, it’s a well-organized overview of Northeastern Native American legends—a great primer for the less informed, as I was. A few of the most frightening were “Ugly Face,” “The Spreaders,” and “Big Tree People.” Some of these tales’ last lines stab where it counts and leave a lasting impression.Great fun on a cold January night, WHEN THE CHENOO HOWLS is a refreshing reminder that less is more.

This is a great little collection of modernized and easy to read traditional Algonquin (NE Native) tales. These stories focus on a little known genre of Native American tales the monster tales which are not particularly scary. Really love this book.

Trust no one!!! The cheating, lying and back stabbing is just pitiful. Simone should have been named "Psycho Simone". I know it's wrong but Tre handled it by scaring the crap of of her. It was his own fault for stepping out on his wife but he did get rid of Psycho. I wasn't a bit surprised at what Psycho did. Sad to say that I was expecting it. I do wonder what her mother was like. I don't understand how she and Tammy were supposed to be friends considering Tammy's opinion of her, or why Tammy kept calling Pyscho when something bad happened. While I felt some for Omari, he was a fool for doing his thinking with his little head. It just added to his problems. He should have been thinking with the head on his shoulders and asking a lot more questions after the supposed attack. No matter how much he kept saying he loved Aeyshia and would never leave her, he was going to cheat. Omari was too naive where Ching and his business was concerned. He knew what life was like in Ching's business and in the streets. I understood what Aeyshia was thinking and going through. It's hard to keep yourself going in those situations but she should have left him and concentrated on investing in and taking care of herself. It's not like she didn't know he was a cheater. I'm not going to get into the other people in the story. You need to read it yourself.Ms. Watkins kept me involved in the story. I want to know what's going to happen next and how it's going to happen even while I shaking your head in aggravation at the cheating, lying and back stabbing.

Now I must admit when I first started reading this book I almost put it down because I felt that the author was bringing too many characters into the story line at once without any background or development. This is an automatic turn off for me...but something just told me to keep on and surprisingly this turned out to be a very good read.Speaking of characters, Tammi, Dontae and Jimmy could have been left out of this all together, I felt they were irrelevant to the story and added nothing to it. Just basically taking up space throughout the book. The characters Simone,Omari and Ayesha could have carried this whole book on their own. Their storyline was crazy! The ending was mixed with sadness and disbelief, I noticed that there are other parts to this book, but if it ended right here I would have actually been content.This story had all types of lies, foolery, cheating and deceit going on. A lot of these characters made me so mad that I didn't know who's a** I would have wanted to kick first if I had the chance.

Baaaabe, this was good. Ok, I didn't like Tammy's attitude about Simone when she herself, in more than one instance, was a side chick and jump off. True, Simone was crazy and desperate for love yet, Tammy really acted like she was all that and then some.Ayesha dying was heartbreaking. Her only crime was in loving her man and sticking by his side. I hate she never got to meet Dahlia and was always so hard on herself.I don't like the lengths to which Simone will sink to get what she wants yet I can emphasize with her loneliness, anguish and pain. On the surface she's a dream.: on the inside a freaking nightmare!!!!Great job Jessica!

I must admit I wasn't sold on this book when I began to read it...I only continued to read because of the stellar reviews. And by the end i was all in it,so much so that I stayed up all night to read part 2....and read parts 3 and 4 over the next two days. i must say the first book does start off slow but it's only because you need all the background info to understand all the plot twists. Books 2&3 never let up even for a secomd. This whole series was amazing...every time you think it can't get any crazier somehow it does! Amazing! Amazing AMAZING!

How many times do I have to be the side piece, when all i really want is a man to call my own. Jessica has created some real lovable, sexy, hate-able, crazy characters that have you talking to yourself by the end of the story.Will Omari grow up and be a man, or will he let his lil head lead him through life? Can Aeysha get her life together and stop feeling sorry for herself? Did you guess what's going on with Eboni yet? Stay tune cause it's just going to get crazier.I recommend this book to readers of all genres!

Jessica Watkins hands down is an amazing author. I can't remember how I even found her series but it was a book I COULD NOT put down. I finished this book in a week and was craving for more. I believe this series has now ended, because I done read every last one of them.Her style reminds me of Sista Souljah, and Zane combined. She definitely needs more recognition for her work, she is amazing!This book will have you hooked to the fictional characters, it will make you believe they really exist and you feel connected to them. I was immediately hooked once I started reading. I had to get the whole series because it really leaves you wanting more.

Omari is a handsome guy with a great job, good relationship, and nice home. Like so many others, though, he wants more. The ladies love him, his cousin Ching has his back, and his girl is the true definition of a lady in love. She knows who he is, but she's willing to love him through it all. Until...Eventually, Omari's roaming eye and love of the finer things catches up with him. He meets Simone, who is no longer willing to be the lady on the side. She's played that role for as long as she's willing. Omari is her man, and she's willing to stop at nothing to let him see that he should let go of the past to be with her. About the Author

Mary Jo Clark, PhD, RN, PHN, has been practicing and teaching population health nursing for 50 years. After completing her BSN degree at the University of San Francisco, she received her introduction to global population health nursing as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Vita, India, a rural town with a population of about 3,000. Returning to the United States, Dr. Clark employed her cross-cultural expertise as a Public Health Nurse in the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. In 1973, she became a pediatric nurse practitioner, and later began teaching population health nursing at East Tennessee State University. She completed a master’s degree as a community health clinical nurse specialist at Texas Women’s University and a PhD in nursing at the University of Texas at Austin. Moving with her army nurse husband to Augusta, Georgia, she taught graduate and undergraduate population health at the Medical College of Georgia. For the past 29 years, Dr. Clark has taught at baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels at the University of San Diego, Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science. In addition to her full-time teaching and writing, Dr. Clark has maintained an active population health nursing practice. She is well known in the population health nursing field and has provided consultation and made presentations across the country and overseas. This was for a second part of a Community class. It just did not give me the great information I liked from the previous book. Some of the chapters were repetitive making it a difficult resource to use for writing papers. The case studies were great though.
