This book isn't exactly what I expected, but overall I think Paizo did a great job with it. I was picturing a book that was carved into gigantic sections for each of the main deities (and possibly some choice other gods), and within those chapters you would get the full-throttle version of each, including some monsters, hierarchy, maybe some nice plot hooks, locations, specific feats, spells and items. If your party was at odds with a particular god worshiping cult, then that was the chapter to solve all of your GM problems! That's not quite what you get here. It does have a lot of that, but spread out a bit different. Also note, that this book definitely pulls together quite a bit of info that is in other books, but it does it pretty well and I think it's worth it to have the complete resource campaign setting book for inspiration. The rest of this review is written with the understanding that not all the info is brand new. Here's a couple important points:1. The main deities are given nice long entries along with some new mechanics for obedience, boons and variant spell casting. There's also (anti)Paladin codes for those gods that support them and some general guidance on how dedicated priests of each god should act. I think this is helpful to give inspiration and motivation from a story perspective. Framework like this makes it a lot of fun for a GM like me who sometimes just can't decide on NPC stuff. The feats - at least the diety specfic ones - seem fairly well done to me despite what I've seen other reviewers say, and I really appreciate this as well. I'm a fan of flavor driven content, and any character options that make you feel like your PC is a hardcore follower of a god helps, IMO.2. There is a section on "other gods" and I'm not really sure what Paizo's intent was here. It starts with I guess what you could call the "Class B" gods, and gives a half page description for each. This seemed weak to me, as this book should be the one where gods such as Ghaulander (sp?) finally get some game-specific info to work with - a worshiper NPC, some boons, a short description of some stronghold, anything more than what they did. Giving this group a nice two-page spread for each would have gone a long way with fans. Then, this same section continues to list many many many race specific gods, along with a few others but with only a few lines of text for each, and I really don't understand why. I would have liked to see something else added here or leave it out for another volume down the road.3. The character options section took up more of the book than I was expecting. I only say that because again, I feel more pages should have been spent on the gods themselves. There are 3 prestige classes, several feats (most pertaining to a deity, but not all) and several new spells and magic items. For the most part, it gives the feel that, if you want a PC that is super-focused on a deity and that will play a large part in the campaign, then these are the options for you. If you don't want that, then you probably don't need to bother - but that's what this book is all about (and there definitely are some good ones in there). I think they did a pretty good job here.(I will say though, there are a few feats/spells that maybe needed a couple seconds of play-testing before print. But this isn't the only book that does that.)4. There's a short bestiary giving two (one high level unique, one low level) monster associated with each (main) god. I love this kind of thing and it's done well. More ready to use game content when focusing one deity.5. I like the tables in the back giving a nice run-down of who's-who in the deity space, listing favored weapons, domains, all that stuff. Only thing is it just leaves you wanting more detail on all those gods and demigodsThe book looks great, and for any GM that gets inspiration from flipping through all the source books, this is another one for you that pulls things into one place. Even if you don't put the gods in your campaigns at all, about half the book is still full of options you can use as a player/item/monster resource. I would have organized it differently, and dropped a few low-value pages to reinforce others, but overall it's a good book.

No one designs deities for D20 like Sean K. Reynolds, from the earliest Third Edition Greyhawk products right up through Pathfinder, and this book is his apotheosis. In this 300 page hardcover Reynolds expands upon the gods of Golarion, offering history, symbols, servitors and game stats, plus plenty of mechanical options for your PC or NPC.

More knowledge and lore can’t hurt anyone who’s involved .

Good detail on the major Gods, and sufficient info on the minor ones. The book has lots of little hooks and such that come in handy when running a religious character or campaign. Definitely worth the purchase for our gaming library.

I really like this book because it provides solid background on the Pathfinder Campaign Setting Gods. It's nice to read up on the different dieties and what each one stands for. The artwork is also superb. The items and magic in this book are just a bonus.

Beautifully illustrated, wonderfully detailed, and provides tons of adventure ideas. The mythology of Golarion is very fascinating. This book provides big write ups for the 20 core deities, as well as many of the minor ones found in various PF adventures. If you never got bothered to get Gods and Magic, this is a great book.On a personal note, it finally shuts down the idea that good-aligned clerics and paladins can worship Asmodeus, so I'm thankful for that.

Lots of info on each god and more info on playing a cleric of that god. Adds additional role playing info to the cleric you are playing or an npc the group is dealing with.

This is an excellent book for expanding your game! Feats and new spells to augment your divine characters as well as extreme in depth details on the Gods of Pathfinder. Useful even if you have your own campaign world for the prestige classes, spells and feats, as well as new items. The price is a little high, but my pleasure with the book outweighs the cost. Useful to players who enjoy clerics and DM's who want to expand the churches of their worlds.

Review

Praise for the Ash Princess series: AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER! “Sure to be one of the summer's most talked about YAs. . . . A darkly enchanting page-turner you won't be able to put down.” –Bustle“Tense and imaginative, this story of a diminished yet vengeful princess inciting a rebellion to recapture her rightful place of power strikes a timely chord. Ash Princess is a smart, feminist twist on a traditional tale of a fallen heroine, with plenty of court intrigue, love, and lies to sweeten the deal. Good luck putting this one down.” —Virginia Boecker, author of The Witch Hunter series“The story leaps and twists like a swordswoman, and its blade carves the characters anew and divides them against themselves. This searing page-turner is a compelling examination of the complexities of both evil and resistance.”—Sarah Porter, author of Vassa in the Night"Laura Sebastian has created a dark and spellbinding epic in Ash Princess. Brace yourself, because Theodosia Houzzara—wounded, driven, and deadly—is going to carve out a place for herself in your heart." —Sara Holland, New York Times bestselling author of Everless"An emotionally complex, breathtakingly suspenseful series starter."-Booklist"For fantasy fans, especially those who enjoy strong female protagonists, this book will be an easy sell. Theo is tough, honorable, and relatable in her emotions [and] Sebastian has built a beautiful and complex world."-VOYA"A rebel queen fans the sparks of revolution...[and] Theo's first-person narration remains enthralling with emotional immediacy...[while] packed to the brim with intrigue and the promise."-Kirkus Reviews"Through unexpected allies and daring escape plans, [Theodosia's] trip from downtrodden princess to queen is an engaging one that fantasy fans will enjoy...[as well as] fans of The Selection series by Kiera Cass and The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins."-SLJ"[Ash Princess] provides a window into the complexities of human interaction and emotion, familial tensions, and the false public face that is sometimes required in politics and at court...culminating in a climactic ending ripe for a sequel."-Publishers Weekly"Sebastian brings interest to Theodosia’s character through her internal battle...and the threats she must navigate provide nail-biting tension....Readers will want to follow her into the coming revolution in a promised sequel."-Bulletin

I loved Ash Princess so much I was almost afraid to read this sequel in case it was disappointing or, as happens with so many other series, the author ruins the characters and relationships forged in the first book. But this lived up to my hopes in every way! Theodosia becomes a true queen, with all the powers and burdens that brings. Theo's relationships with Blaise, Artemesia, and Heron grows and deepens, as does her relationship with Prince Soren.Theodosia and her companions (three Astrean Guardians with the powers of Air, Water and Earth + Soren the Crown Prince of the Kalovaxians who also happens to be Theo's love interest) join with the pirate Dragonsbane (Theo's aunt). Dragonsbane takes them to Sta'Crivero, rich neighboring kingdom whose corrupt elderly king is only interested in how he can use her situation for profit. A sea of suitors compete for Theo's hand in marriage (and 1/2 her kingdom) while Theo fights against accepting a forced marriage for political reasons. Each of them struggle with the demons of their past and what they must now do now to regain Astrea. As the group navigates a sea of viperous suitors and tries to aid the starving Astrean refugees in Sta'Crivero, brilliant writing conveys their internal fears that they will become what they loathed in their ruthless parents. Does the end ever justify the mean? Or is empathy just a weakness that must be set aside for the greater good? There are twists and turns that had me cheering with excitement one minute and then shocked and despairing the next, but it is a ride worth taking. We see Erik and his mother Hoa again, and new surprising details of their identity is revealed. Crescentia is back and her transformation makes her into an intriguing and frightening enemy. Soren's political and military genius is put to use as tries to makes restitution for his past and show his love and loyalty to Theo. I loved watching their relationship blossom in this book. Theo finds new allies and moves closer to retaking Astrea.I can't wait for the conclusion to this series!

Good read, forward-thinking without it being overwhelming, but falls short of the 5 star potential that I think it has. I'm writing this review before book 3 is released, so I've only read books 1 and 2. This one is slower than the first but I think that's due to world-building and answering questions from the first book. Left off right where book one ended. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because it didn't grab me quite as well as the first and the plot was slow to start but it was still a good read. The writing is beautiful and the characters seemed to evolve more for the most part but maybe not quite to their full potential or were a bit contradictory, but who am I? Certainly not a literary author. Overall I enjoyed the series but it's not quite a 5 star in my opinion. Would recommend for girls and young women ages 16+ due to amount of violenc and some mild references to rape/sexual abuse. Contains mild swearing but it was pretty scarce (in case anyone is triggered or doesn't like the occasional, but rare, cursing). The 2 books are very forward thinking and feminist without it being overwhelming, aside from what is discussed below in the spoilers, which is refreshing.*******SPOILERS BELOW******You've been warned!I found that both books were written beautifully but were quite repetitive when it came to past events in the series.Yes, we know the Kaiser overthrew her land.Yes, we know the Theyn killed her mother the queen, by the Kaiser's order of course.Yes, we know she witnessed it.Yes, we know she was forced to kill Ampelio (possibly her father), by the Kaiser's order again.Yes, we know Dragonsbane and Art have a strained relationship.Yes, we know she betrayed Cress and will never be forgiven.Yes, Cress now has a freakish gift that haunts nightmaresYes, queens don't marryYes, we know Theo doesn't want to forgive Prinz Soren for captaining the raid on Vecturia, though again by the Kaiser's ordersetc.I felt like I was watching episode recaps not reading books, and that bothered me. Maybe more than it should but it did. Also there is the stereotypical love triangle and she can't seem to make up her mind on which boy she wants to pursue but doesn't really seem to see it as a triangle, more like she is going to get both and kisses/proclaims her love to each, back and forth, with no real thought to who she actually "loves." This leads me to believe that Blaise will die and she ends up with the Prinz because there doesn't seem to be much of an arguement going on in her head, especially in the second book. With a book so forward thinking and trying to empower women, it doesn't make sense to me why this triangle is the way it is. It doesn't feel like "I'm an independent woman and the choice is mine," more like "emotional teenage girl can't decide."The first book had really good plot other than that and kept me up at night reading until I finished and I believe I overall enjoyed the storyThe second one I trudged through the first few chapters but once they were on their way to meet the king and suitors, things really picked up the pace. I did not guess the suitor murder culprit initially but started to get an idea of who it was right before it was revealed.

Strong, dynamic characters make a wonderful fantasy! Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read and review Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian!Theo is on Smoke, Dragonbane’s ship, with her Shadows and Soren. They are all working towards gathering allies to get her palace and reign back. Dynamic, strong characters plus the world building make Lady Smoke interesting to read and the uncertainty of Theo’s future drew me into the story even more. The characters’ backgrounds are intense and built fascinating characters that keep growing and stay steadfast by Theo’s side. Amazing strength and loyalty create unparalleled love for the kingdom they are all trying to get back. As the story carries on, more atrocities are brought to light and make the group even more determined! I don’t want to spoil anything but I’m thoroughly enjoying this series and anxiously awaiting the third book! 5 stars for great world building and strong, dynamic characters!

I was worried thia one wouldn't live up to the first book, but I am happy to say that is not the case. I don't want to say too much to give away the excitement or the twists and turns of this amazing story. All I can say is I loved this story almosy as much as the first. Spring 2020 is too far away to see the epic conclusion of this story. I will say I am Team Soren (sorry Blaise)!

This was a very intriguing-- and at times heartbreaking-- book that left me unable to put the book down. Lots of character development and I love how the author builds on the characters and makes them more 3D, especially with their flaws. It makes them more realistic in an unrealistic setting. I can't wait for the next book!

The Trial of Phillis Wheatley"How about a nice long nap and then we can plan our next adventure?"I smiled and nodded. "Sounds perfect." And it was."So ends "Rush Revere and the American Revolution."But to understand the possibilities of the next installment one has to read the book which I did. Anyone who has a love of history, especially American colonial history will enjoy this book. The perspective is new and innovative which as with all good fiction requires the reader to suspend disbelief as you follow the adventures of a talking Horse Liberty and Rush Revere who with a time travelling crew can jump back or forward into time. In addition there is a subtle salute to our veterans and their families that is blended into the story In this book it so happens that Liberty and Rush and the time travelling crew have jumped right in the middle of my favorite time and place in American history - Boston, Massachusetts on the verge of the American Revolution. I thoroughly enjoyed this book with its quirkily delightful characters that share their humor and insights on American history. I think it will stimulate young people to read and study history. I only wish this book had been around when I was young. I would have learned that I love to study history at much earlier than I did. And may I suggest the next adventure. It would be easy for Liberty and Rush since they were just a few blocks away from the place and time because the location is the Common House about a block away from the Old South Church. Again it will be cold and dangerous because it is early November 1772 and there is a riot going on outside on King Street. Inside seated on a chair surrounded by 18 of Boston's most distinguished men is a young 18 year old African American slave. These men are all dumbfounded as they listen to her answer the questions posed to her as she defends the thesis that she is the sole and true author of a manuscript of poems. They have never seen an African American who has written poetry. The stakes are high for her and her "jury" for her challenge is to convince them what she says is true so that her poems can be published and she would then become the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry.

Got the whole series for my granddaughter when she was 7... Had no idea what impact it would have on a young mind... Never read it myself, but have no problems remembering the lessons that they used to teach in "history." (Back in the 40's and 50's before "new-speak" arrived.) She and I have some discussions about what she reads; and, bless her heart, she treats me like I may have been there.. LOLBe careful what you start, if you don't have the educational background to follow through... The questions a young mind may ask will absolutely blow your sox off if you aren't sufficiently versed in history...

As an adult, I realize I am reading a book designed for a youth audience so I overlook the elementary and juvenile nature of the story structure and dialogue in order to learn information. Most of the historical information in the book I remember learning over fifty years ago in school. But I even learned new information like the episode with Henry Knox and the Ticonderoga cannons, an amazing feat of strength and determination, which I do not remember ever hearing before. The value of this and the two prior books in the series, which I also read, is immense for the youth of our country, particularly if schools no longer teach these historical events about the birth of the United States.I commend Rush Limbaugh for his efforts to keep the history of American greatness at the forefront of our culture. God Bless America and its unique role in the history of the world.

As I was explaining to our 10 yr old granddaughter that it was a history book about America but with a twist, I saw her roll her eyes and get a very resigned look on her face. Then my husband began reading. She went to sleep that night without saying anything about it. The next night, she was right there ready for the story, all bright eyed and excited. I asked her after we finished the second chapter how she was liking the book. She went on and on about how she loved it. She had thought she was going to hate it and much to her surprise that was not the case at all. It was a very exciting time for all of us! Thank you, Rush!!!!

This is a great book. My daughter, who is 8, looks forward to reading the Rush Revere books. We are just about finished with Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner and she will be getting Rush Revere and the Presidency for Christmas! It will be one of my daughters favorite gifts under the tree, a book, who would have thought! She actually wants me to ask questions when we read, to test how well she is paying attention. She bragged about what she has learned from the Rush Revere books in class and the teacher asked her to bring one of her books in to class to see.it. Her teacher seemed to be very impressed with what my daughter was learning from the books. Thanks again Rush. I'm sure if my daughter was here, She would say, say hi to Liberty for me! Merry Christmas Rush.

Well written. The book is not only incredibly entertaining but is also a great vehicle for teaching our children about our true history. I bought it for my 8yr. old granddaughter who, once she began reading it couldn't put it down.

It is a testament to the intent of these books that they stay true to know history, apart from the time traveling horse, students and Rush, rather than conjecture or desire. I have fact checked some of the actual events and they are portrayed as reported to have happened. In addition I have learned a few things. Having grown up in New England and visited the same places I can say that these books are a great overview. BTW, if you are looking for any political agenda from Rush, forget it. It is just not there.
