It's not that the information in the book is wrong or of low quality, and I'm sure other people will find this useful, but I found it quite user unfriendly. It's lists of things in cities, with sterile explanations that didn't make me feel any more knowledgeable about the country than I was before. It feels like a computer wrote this book. There are many beautiful, full-color pictures, but they take up too much space, and really hinder the guide's flow and continuity. I didn't need more than a handful, at all. They're eye candy. I wound up using TripAdvisor instead. I've used the Lonely Planet books for Australia and Iceland, and I really wish I'd just bought their book for Germany instead, but I wanted to try something different.

Eyewitness is my preferred travel guide for history and sights over alternative brands of travel book.It doesn't have all the hotel and restaurant info that some of the others do, but that kind of info gets out of date so quickly and can all be found online.I'm pretty sure the restaurants and places listed in these books will be around for years to come. Most of the info is about structures and attractions which don't change very often. The pull-out maps are quite handy if you can bring yourself to actually tear them out of the book!I read through these at home but am going to purchase the Kindle versions for use on my iPad mini while traveling.

Very disappointed with this book.I bought the same author but for Netherlands and Amsterdam and loved the information and maps. This one is not good. There are no walking maps. The maps are missing some of the museums and castle locations. The writing is so faint in color its hard to read. It needs to be in bold black ink. Not good road maps. It should have more pictures of things. I feel I want to see the items its talking about but I will have no clue until I arrive. Not good restaurant information and not alot of choices. Its like they wanted people to pay them to be in his book instead of reviewing what was around. It did give me a few suggestions and I will follow them in what to visit but over all im disappointed with Germany.

I have long loved the Eyewitness travel guides so this was my first choice. I am specifically traveling to Munich and Nuremberg. Munich is merely 34 pages and so many places are missing from mention. Also in the where to stay section there are only 12 hotels listed for Munich when I know there are hundreds! S I very quickly realized that this book is very far from what I need and want. Clearly I will have to buy city specific travel guides. I wish I had looked at the book sooner - too late for me to return it now. Anyone want mine? I will not even bring it with me.

I have purchased a number of these guides as well as other publishers, but these are my favorite.

This is an example of beautiful publishing. It is a joy to use. Makes other travel books look archaic! I have converted to Eyewitness Travel.

This guide book is informative and full of glossy pictures. It explains Germany and its history/culture very nicely. But it doesn't provide too many helpful tips for the lay traveler. It's also heavy heavy heavy! I had to leave it behind near the end of my two week trip. By then, I was choke full of history and my shoulder couldn't handle the extra weight. Sad b/c it wasn't cheap and I would have liked to keep it as a reference book.

Eyewitness always does a very nice treatment of the target country. For me this was more of a planning/what's possible book than an actual guidebook you would carry along with you (it's a bit heavy). Use Rick Steve's for that. I seem to remember being more impressed with the first one I bought years ago (France), the one on Germany had plenty of pictures, but many of them seemed very tiny, almost like thumbnails, making it hard to appreciate the subject. Nevertheless, a great reference for planning a trip, and highly recommended.

My 7 year old son is having some issues with anxiety and this book is helping him learn some skills to cope with his anxiety. I would recommend it for other parents.

The book arrived on time, in excellent condition, and looks exactly as pictured. It is an 80 page black and white workbook. I bought it for my 13 year old cousin who was having such severe anxiety about school, despite being a straight A student, that she had started missing classes. With her and her mom's permission, I have uploaded some of the pages to give you a glimpse into the types of activities that the book offers. It really has helped her out immensely by giving her tools to learn how to cope. I also recommended this book to a friend, and her son is doing much better. I strongly recommend this workbook for anyone that is dealing with anxiety! Buy it!

Every kid should read this book. Not just one's that "worry". The specific techniques it teaches are brilliant. And, it's not just good for kids. It's the same skills adults need. After reading this book to my daughter, I still use the "15 minutes to worry in the morning" trick and it really has helped. She is in 1st grade (age 7) and this has been truly wonderful. We bought three (worry, grumble, and anger) and loved all of them. I can't pick one over the other and now my daughter wants the one on bad habits. She doesn't even have any bad habits but I am going to get it because I am sure it's going to help... her, and me. :-)At our house we have "library" quality books which means it's a great story but we don't need to own it in our home. And then we have "purchase" books for things we want to go back to over and over. This is an "own it" book. Was this review useful? If so, please press "yes" so I can get your feedback. Thank you

We received this book today and worked all the way through it this evening. My 8 year old daughter has been struggling with worry and anxiety and feeling bad about her thoughts. As we were reading through I could see the lightbulb going off and the weight lifting from her shoulders. Not only was it validating the things we have been trying to tell her but it showed her she is not alone and it is "normal" to feel the way she is feeling compared to other kids with anxiety. She read the whole thing out loud to me and would stop and relate to so many things. The worry box and worry time were the most helpful. Also, the analogies relating worry to a plant. Really a great tool to help the anxious child (and her anxious parent worrying about her). So glad I found a recommendation for this book on a message board!

My son has always been a worrier, but he became totally consumed with thinking about death this summer. From the instant he woke up to the time he lay awake in bed at night, unable to sleep, and even in his dreams, he worried about it and wanted to discuss it, obsessively. Discussion did not help. Answering his questions logically did not help. We took the YouTube app off the iPad because he could not stop himself from looking up videos about death. At his doctor's recommendation we got this workbook. It taught him a strategy of stopping his worries by putting them in a virtual box and telling himself he would worry about them at his designated "worry time" -- say, 6 p.m., when he and I would talk about them for 15 minutes if needed. I was skeptical but we gave it a try. The first few days it was hard to stop the thoughts, but soon he was able to "save them up" for discussion later, and after a few more days he started telling me he did not need the worry time any more. After many weeks of his worrying consuming both our lives, this was an amazing help. We've used the strategy a few times successfully since then when something bothers him.

This book has been amazing for my 8 year old daughter who suffers with extreme anxiety 😥 She actually looks forward to the nights we spend together working through her feelings. Not only that, me,as her parent, suffers from anxiety as well, and I have also found comfort in this book. I highly recommend!

This is a truly wonderful book for kids with anxiety. It was recommended to us by a child psychiatrist friend of mine. My 6 (now 7) year old was struggling with a fear of vomiting for more than a year, to varying degrees. Our family life was becoming strained and we were frustrated that we couldn't figure out how to help her. This book changed everything for us. We read it with her and she enjoyed reading it and completing the activities. She has really embraced the strategies described in the book and she even described her proudest moment as when "she learned to beat the worries." We noticed a difference in the level of worry in less than two weeks. After about 3 months, the severity of her anxiety was reduced to less than 20% of its original presentation. She still has her ups and downs, but overall, the anxiety level is very manageable and does not prevent her from doing things that she enjoys. We revisit the book periodically (every few weeks) when things seem to swell - but overall, I think that her success is remarkable. This is the best $9.00 you could spend if your child is dealing with anxiety.

I am a therapist and I LOVE this book. It's great as a therapeutic tool, but clear enough for parents to use with their children. Parents might even find some useful tools for themselves! Highly recommend for kids with anxiety - especially ones with physiological symptoms.

for all of you dealing with an anxious child, this book gives you a hand and the kids feel understood. When they realize they are not the only ones "worrying" half of the problem is already solved. The only thing I would add is that is for 7+ year old, could be a bit too complicated for younger ones

This is the third volume in a three volume series, a biography of Winston Churchill, begun by William Manchester. When it came time for the third volume, health problems forced Manchester to seek assistance--and Paul Reid finished the work after Manchester's death. Despite that sad history, the book works well and completes the trilogy very well. This volume covers Churchill's life from 1940 until his death in 1965. At the outset, Churchill is named Prime Minister, achieving the goal of a lifetime. The book begins with the grim reality of the start of the Second World War. Poland had been overwhelmed by the Wehrmacht. England and France finally had the gumption to take a stand against German, declaring war on Hitler's Third Reich. Churchill moved British troops to France to protect Western Europe from what Churchill referred to as "the Hun." As we know, the German Panzers, using Blitzkrieg, devastated the Allies' defense, and many British troops barely escaped at Dunkirk. Then, the story really begins, with Churchill rallying the people back home with his rhetoric, his confidence, his will. The Battle of Britain, the loss of territory in the Pacific to the Japanese (Singapore, Burma, and so on), the loss of major warships to Japanese planes. . . . At the same time, German U-boats began destroying goods and food being shipped to Great Britain by cargo vessels. A time of great peril. Again, the volume highlights Churchill's efforts to rally his people and get the Americans to provide support. The story in this work considers the double cross by Germany against its erstwhile ally the Soviet Union and the awkward alliance of Great Britain with the Soviet Union. The odd triangular relationships among Franklin Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin, and Churchill is well described. Including the seeds of future problems as the leaders jockeyed for position. And the war effort itself. We read of the African campaign, with Edwin Rommel dueling English forces. What would be the plan after that? We read of Churchill's intense efforts to carry out his strategic vision as to military efforts and the increasing head butting between him and the Americans (and, later, the Soviets). One of the hallmarks of this book is the graphic depiction of Churchill's idiosyncrasies and how hard he could be toward his aides. He was single minded and often created misery in others as a result. Over time, the book makes clear the shift in power from Great Britain to the United States, and the tensions thereby created. The story of World War II and Churchill's role is well told. So, too, is the stunning fall from power after Germany's defeat, Churchill's years in the wilderness, and his reaccession as Prime Minister )PM). His age was a burden in his second time serving as PM, but he persevered. The family problems and his declining years are well told. All in all, a most estimable biography. Reid served well in completing Manchester's final volume in the Churchill series.

I have been nervously awaiting this book for years. My first encounter with Manchester came when volume one first came out. I was a child, and I went to visit my grandmother (who was in London during the Blitz); she held the book up to show me what she was reading. "The man." she said. "The great, great man."Years later, I read the first two volumes almost in one sitting - couldn't put them down - and have reread large parts of them over the years (every time I looked some piece up I'd find myself sitting down for an hour or two because I couldn't stop). I remember when Finest Hour reported that the trilogy would never be finished: it was like a punch in the stomach.I had my doubts about the ability of another author to write worthily of Manchester, and I was afraid this volume wouldn't measure up. No need to worry: this is every bit as much a page-turner as the last two volumes. It's not QUITE Manchester - I thought I could feel a bit of a difference in style, somehow - and yet it IS extremely good, much better than I had expected.Like the first two volumes, we begin with a preamble ("The Lion Hunted") in which we are (re-)acquainted with the book's subject. There is a certain amount of repetition of material from the two earlier preambles, but much good new material as well. I've read thousands of pages on Churchill, but even I found some good new anecdotes and quotations here. After that we're hurled right into the middle of the most dramatic days of World War Two. The unexpected, catastrophic defeats; the incompetence and perfidy of the people in charge of France - it doesn't take much from a writer to make this an exciting story, and yet I don't think it has ever been told better than this. Really, just what I had hoped for from Manchester himself. If the later parts of the book don't quite keep the same level of excitement, neither do the events they recount. My only complaint is the ending: really, the book just stops. Read the end of volume II: I would have expected Manchester himself to end with a climactic summary, perhaps returning to his major insight from the start: the central significance of Churchill in history is that he was a product of the late nineteenth century who was able to bring the virtues of the era of his formative years to life again at a time when they were needed, and when the British people were not yet too far from them. Actually, I do have one other complaint, and it's with the publisher: the dust jacket doesn't match the first edition dust jackets of the first two volumes. Doesn't look as good on the shelf as I would have liked. All in all, this is a worthy final volume. Manchester himself would be proud, and there can be no doubt that this trilogy would be Churchill's favourite biography. Highly recommended, to fans of the first two volumes and newcomers alike.

This is an excellent finale to the three book series. I have read an awful lot about Winston Churchill by now. He was by no means a perfect person and this book does not represent him as such. But when it is all said and done,,,, Charles DeGaulle, (who had a complicated relationship with alot of the leaders of the Allies), had the band play Fr'ere Victoire when Churchill came to Paris.... And said it was "Only Justice" that it was so.Papa Victory....Father of the Victory pretty much summed it up. He stood up to Hitler when England was all alone and many in England were trying to figure out how they might arrange a truce. The darkest days of the initial German Invasion... he was in France as the Prime Minister.... He undertook grueling airplane trips to meet with Roosevelt in North Africa and Canada.... he went to Moscow via Africa.... he was not a young man at the time... I was impressed by many things about Churchill, his leadership. His willingness to put his own bacon in the fire without hesitation.... he was a great man and I don't think he is appreciated for how great he was.

Review

ECPA bestsellerCBA bestseller“One of the best books I’ve ever read. The Last Arrow will inspire you to make the most of the life you’ve been given and create the life you’ve always wanted.” —Jon Gordon, author of The Carpenter and Training Camp, JonGordon.com “The Last Arrow throws wide the window to what God always intended for you…a life of nothing wasted and nothing held back. Each page reveals another mindset that undermines destiny. In Erwin’s words, ‘When you choose to live, you become a source of life.’ It is time to stop burying talents and hoarding arrows. It is not too late to dust off your bow, take aim and shoot with all that is within you.” —Lisa Bevere, New York Times Bestselling Author, Cofounder Messenger International“I have never interacted with Erwin where he did not move me and capture my heart. His call in this book is one more example. He wakes us up where we need it, and pushes us past lack of clarity and through the unavoidable fear of truly spending our lives well. Thanks once again, my friend!” —Dr. Henry Cloud, Psychologist and Author“Erwin McManus is a passionate, courageous, and genuine man, and I am thankful to have the rare privilege to encounter him. In his latest book he writes as he has lived. The Last Arrow is a peek into the very threads of Erwin’s journey; threads that has been woven into the fabric of his very life and story. For me. And for you. And for all of us who endeavor to leave more behind than we have taken from this life. The pages of this book will poke you. In fact, they will prod you to live with eternal intention and fight beyond the tyranny of the mundane that we can all become so captive to. Truth and vulnerability make this message catching, compelling, and encouragingly dangerous. You can’t read this book and stay the same.” —Judah Smith, Lead Pastor of The City Church NY Times best-selling author of Jesus Is _____.

First off, not since 'In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day' have I read a Christian book based on such an obscure scripture. I was intrigued by Erwin's summation that Elisha was angered because the king quit, not there was a magic number of times to strike the arrow. This book is convicting, motivating, tought provoking, and packed with wisdom and mirrors. I got a good kick in the pants to evaluate what is important in this life. This is a great read! There are too many worthy quotes to list, but here are a few of my favorites :"The great tragedy would be to live your life waiting for that moment to come instead of living your life preparing for when that moment comes.""Most of us are not choosing between life and death; we are choosing between existence and death.""God's future will never come to us at the cost of our character."

I have to admit, before receiving a copy of The Last Arrow, I had never heard of Erwin McManus or Mosaic. Now I'll never be able to forget his words of wisdom.McManus grabs your interest from the get-go by informing his readers he is dying. Although he meant it in a spiritual context when he penned it, by the end of the book the statement had taken on a much more literal meaning. How would you respond if someone you knew and respected informed you they could be dying? You'd pay close attention to every word uttered, especially when those words are backed by passionate conviction. When your days are numbered, every minute presents an opportunity to live life with all you've got. That's the message of The Last Arrow. Don't settle. Don't be mediocre. Don't save up energy and experiences for another day for another day is never promised to any of us.Go into the world and make your mark. Even if you're unsure which direction to go, just start walking. Start a business. Hug your children. Take a trip. Take several of them. When asked to do something, go that extra mile.Hold nothing back for tomorrow. Empty your quiver then ask for more. Don't ever look back. God is able to use you in a larger and deeper way when you're looking out the windshield rather than the rear view mirror. After all, that's why we're here...

The Last Arrow is the first book I’ve read by Erwin Raphael McManus, but it won’t the last. Using Biblical examples, McManus weaves a wonderful story that should motivate Christians to give it all to God. If there is one recurrent theme within the book, it is to not be satisfied to give God less than you really can. My favorite quote from the book really does sum up the book for me: “If one day we are to have a conversation with God about the measure of our lives, I would rather have him ask me why I tried to do too much than have him ask me why I settled for so little.” I can’t shake the importance of the need to give all my effort and how I so often do settle for so little. You’ll learn a lot about Erwin McManus as you read and you’ll see he has led an extraordinary life, but still is so very personable and down-to-earth. I don’t think you can read it and not see the urgency to “save nothing for the next life.” I received an ARC copy for review; however, I purchased it so I can pass a copy on to someone else.

This may be THE book that EVERYONE ON MY CHRISTMAS LIST GETS!At least all those who have any potential to do anything of any significance, which as McManus makes clear in the Last Arrow could be any one of us. My life purpose is to unlock the purpose and passion of others who can 'change the game' and bring a powerful positive difference to the world and I see using The Last Arrow as a new power tool in this process with my clients.I have not yet written a book, but The Last Arrow says so much that I wish I would have said that I'll be using it in my work as a catalyst to spur others on to the work that they are designed and called to do. Erwin is a masterful storyteller with many real life stories to tell and it's because he has lived the Last Arrow principles powerfully that he has these experiences to share. So, I anticipate using this as a centerpiece for my Life Story Blueprint Consulting practice in he season ahead because it has so many applications for those who truly want to make their mark on the world. It's almost like a text book that I can use to share key concepts and principles along with powerful stories to show what can happen when the principles are put into practice. As one who has the dream to catalyze, empower and equip world changers I don't know of a more powerful book than 'The Last Arrow' to get people moving toward their calling, mission and purpose. So, in 2018 this will be my go to training book with my clients and one we'll be using in the church where I serve!McManus has knocked it out of the park with 'The Last Arrow'!ALL THE BEST TO YOU.Jeff Fuson
