From Booklist

Gr. 6-9. In a year when two young chefs, ages 8 and 10, were nominated for the James Beard Award, it's clear that kids are increasingly comfortable in the kitchen. English teen Sam Stern, with his mother's help, offers this slender, photo-packed cookbook, unusual not only because of its author but also because it focuses on guys, with chapters such as "Impress the Girls." That said, the recipes, presented in a casual but clear voice, will draw both genders. An opening section presents some insight into cooking's appeal for teens: "It's brilliant to know that you can be independent," Sam says of the ability to cook what he wants, when he wants it. Suggestions for breakfast, dinner, and snacks are included, as are dishes for parties and for boosting brainpower during exams. Although the recipes aren't technically difficult, kids without any kitchen experience will need lots of help. Still, the bright, energetic text and color photos of Sam and his photogenic friends and family will easily pull in aspiring foodies. Gillian EngbergCopyright © American Library Association. I was a little disappointed because the recipes are based out of England and so sometimes the items needed or the measurements are not available which makes it hard for my son to do the recipes. If you want a cook book for a teen I would not recommend this one. This does not have simple recipes of food that teens would like to make, more for adults with a variety of pallets.

I bought this for my 13 year old and he loves it. Its real food, real recipes and ingredients. He has learned how to use a scale for some of the recipes. His favorite recipe so far that he can't wait to make again is the cheesecake! We all devoured it! FYI... Scales are pretty cheap and a great tool. Teaching your kids to cook REAL food not ramen and canned soup is empowering for them and helpful life skills they deserve!

We bought this cookbook for our 12 yr old son. Many kids cookbooks are pretty boring and include recipes for things that don't even need a recipe (ie. grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwich). This cookbook has more interesting recipes and the fact that a teenager wrote it is a big plus, too. There are plenty of good photos to illustrate the recipes as well. Finally a cookbook for kids that is actually worth buying!

Very preactical one pan cooking for any teenager going away to college. My nephew said it was a complete ' life-saver' and gave him the confidence to try out his darm kitchen and not just the microwave.

I bought this cookbook for my 13 year old daughter for Christmas. It has simple recipes like hamburgers, dips, smoothies and more complicated and involved recipes like lasagna, crepes and baked chicken. The only thing that I didn't like about it was that it calls for some slightly unusual ingredients from time to time that were difficult to come by, living in a small, rural area. However, it is fun and simple, yet yummy.

Grandkids cooked for themselves. Only problem was that the house smelled great when parents got home, but there were no remains of dinner to be found anywhere. Interesting and easy to follow.

These were ideal for my grandson who loves to cook.

my grandson wants to be a chef and he loves this book. recipes seem accurate and very enjoyable. he is 13 and this seems to be a good book for this age
