The fluidity and cleverness of her prose poetry is down to earth, close to home and speaks in a langue of its own. The book is packed with many memorable pieces but the real stand outs are the longer ones. Amongst my favorites are: "Hurricane Nights", "Seeing Red", "Dear Stranger", "Remembering to Forget" to name a few. Letting go might be an acquired taste, but loving this book is something that comes instantly. Must buy!

At once captivating and arresting, "Letting Go" is an endearing collection of Christina Hart's poetry. Every piece has its own ethos, whether it be in long or short form. This variance is length and mood propels one quickly through this lovely work, and going back reveals new layers each time. I give this my highest recommendation.

Christina Harts poetry is so honest and beautiful. She captures so much, in an extraordinary way....Reading her writing, honestly made me feel like I wasn't an alien in this world when it comes to falling in love. I am very grateful this book was written and was available for me to read. There is a bitter sweetness to her writing that really hits home.

Everything about this book is beautiful. From the cover, to the carefully selected works that deal with the heartbreak and perseverance of moving on, and "letting go." A word to the wise though, this book of poems is rather short, but filled with a mighty big heart. It's a perfect reminder that even the littlest of things can hold an important significance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have :).

Filled with the pain of brokenness and wanting, this quick read is deep and meaningful. It gives you a desire to check yourself and identify with the words.

Lingers in your chest, a hitching breath of sadness, and is mired in the obsessive love we have all felt for that one person who we KNEW was perfect for us, and yet somehow still wasn't.

Ahhh-mazing. Hart lives up to her name and gets right to the heart of universal feelings. Her voice is raw, unique, and to the point. I really enjoyed this, as I did her other poetry too.

This is a beautiful little book of poetry that is well-written and relatable. Check it out!

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is the text of a sermon that Edwards preached to his congregation. I know of no author/preacher who is more consistently captivated by God's glory in his grace and love towards sinners, especially as manifested in the eternal joy in Him of heaven. But Edwards was also poignantly aware of the reality of hell. Hell is what we all deserve; God's eternal and infinite wrath is what we would be experiencing now and should experience for eternity if it were not in God's good pleasure to restrain Himself. God's glory in salvation and grace is made all the more glorious when his perfect and righteous wrath are manifested toward the vessels prepared for destruction. Edwards calls all hearers to recognize their powerlessness in the face of this God who is justly wrath-filled against them. Either rest secure in your position in Christ, where Christ has already absorbed this wrath and given us his righteousness securing eternity in heaven. Or be very afraid, be convicted by sin when you see just how horrible it is that a perfect God would punish it so, repent/turn, and trust in God to cleanse you from that sin, both its guilt and its power. This is an excellent sermon that I had not read in quite some time and am resolved to return to regularly. No matter who you are, you must know of the true God, both his justice and mercy.

Due to its simplicity and relatively short read, I purchased several of these I intend to give out with tracts I use "Life is a Gift" by G. W. North."Life Is a Gift"Human life is a gift. However it develops later on, it starts as a gift. We say that a mother gives birth to a child. No-one ever thinks of saying he gave himself life or birth. We all recognize that both were given to us. We did not work for or earn the life we have, nor did we even desire or will it. We came into the world for better or worse, without any say in the matter. We were just born. Whatever the known biological facts, it is God who gives the breath of life to every living soul.Eternal spiritual life is as much a gift as natural life is. So Jesus Christ says, “You must be born again.” There is no alternative. How can a man believe he must be born naturally and yet not believe he must also be born spiritually? The man in the Bible to whom Jesus said, “You must be born again” never questioned the necessity of it, nor did he imagine there was any alternative to it. He was only baffled as to the possibility of it. He did not say “Why?” but “How?” Is there an enlightened soul anywhere on earth who will deny that he also needs a new life - not just a different, reformed, amended life, but an altogether new one?God sent Jesus Christ into this world to meet that need. He says, “I have come that you may have life,” plainly implying that man has not begun to live until he receives the life that Jesus offers. He did not say, “I have come to add to your existing life, to help you improve or mend it, or make atonement for the past.” He has no intention of doing any such thing, for that is man’s way, whether by politics, science, education, philosophy or religion. God’s way is by birth, and because it is God’s way it must be man’s, for man has no choice in the matter. God ordained the birth-way for mankind. To have natural life you must be born. Similarly, to have eternal life you must be born again.Nowhere is it disputed that the life of Jesus Christ is the most desirable of all lives this earth has ever witnessed. Its righteousness, purity, holiness, love and power were indestructible and proved unconquerable, even by death itself. Being of such quality, it is eternal. A person and his life are one. It can therefore be easily seen that no man can possibly have Jesus’ personal life until Jesus comes into him, for Jesus is that life. He is God’s gift to you. He was and is and ever will be God’s Son - God was His Father. God, wishing to give you eternal life, will give birth and life to you if you will fulfill His conditions. Whoever you are, God’s will is to give you that same eternal life that was in the Man Jesus. But in order to have it you must be born again. Our first birth was entirely physical, but the second birth is an entirely spiritual one. It is a miracle of God.Are you prepared to begin all over again? Do you really want to make a completely new start? There are few who do not wish at heart that they could be different. Have you at times honestly wished you could live your life all over again? Then here is your opportunity. At this point receive inward assurance that you have the power to do what God requires of you. Only believe and God will do the miracle. The power is called faith, which is simply the determined response of your whole being to God. Do it now.Be definite by a sincere act of will:1. Turn absolutely from the past. 2. Believe on God’s Son Jesus Christ with your whole heart. 3. Receive Him into your entire being; confess Him as your own indwelling Savior and Lord. This is the act of cooperation God requires of you. He will then by His Spirit give you birth into His family. This is the only way you can be born again. From that moment onward you may not go back to live your life all over again. It must be understood that it is precisely that old life with which you must part in order to have the new. Jesus Christ will now live in you and do His Father’s will through you. This is that new and eternal life that God will give you.Maybe in the past you have given promises, made decisions, and vowed vows to be different. God is not unmindful of them all, but by themselves they will not be of any use. Man cannot give himself birth or life. Not the greatest amount of sincere trying can do that. Believe God now. Receive God’s Son, Jesus Christ, right into your own self and God will do the rest. Life - eternal life - is a gift." – by G.W. North

Edwards truly gave an inspired sermon. If you read the preface it shares he showed no emotion, didn’t focus on anyone and only read what he wrote. Unlike his contemporaries he was not a theatrical individual, and yet this sermon is viewed as one of the most powerful revival deliveries ever produced. As a Christian justified in the blood of Christ, I was very moved by his words. I felt the pains of sadness for those individuals who still haven’t accepted Jesus as their personal savior. While I want to think this sermon might convince some who don’t know Jesus to become born again, I am not sure it will. Non believers might think Edward’s words and supported scripture is just another ridiculous act to scare people to convert. At least some in my family would think that. It is why I pray daily that they and others will find their way to Christ and realize the purity of His love as none other.

I facilitate a weekly men's bible study and we were preparing to begin an eight week session on another Amazon book, "Heaven Revealed" by Paul Enns. It seemed a good idea that before we began to read and discuss Heaven, we should, perhaps, study a bit about Hell. So we looked at C.S. Lewis's chapter on Hell in his "The Problem of Pain," and Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Jonathan Edwards "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is the transcript of his multiple-hour sermon which he delivered in Enfield, Connecticut, on July 8, 1741.Jonathan Edwards was a brilliant man who spoke with a quiet voice and who had severe myopia (nearsightedness). When he delivered his sermon, he did it hunched over and with his voice projecting downward. Never-the-less, it is said people listening were screaming in fear and grasping tightly onto pews so they wouldn't fall into destruction. Why that reaction by his hearers is a great reason to read this very special book!The entire sermon uses Deuteronomy 32:35 ("Their foot shall slide in due time...") to warn of the consequence for unbelievers. In our culture where God is so often portrayed as "love" we may forget that God is also pure and holy and has no tolerance for sin. This sermon speaks to the this side of God and the lot of sinners who die without Christ. It isn't a pretty picture that Edwards paints. The reason this sermon is considered a Christian classic is that his words are timeless, blunt and soul-piercing.Our men's group gained immensely from the three sessions we devoted to this great book. It prepared us for the much more positive study of Heaven. I recommend it highly!

THE DEFENCE OF DUFFER'S DRIFT has now inspired a third tale (that I'm aware of) which is included as the first half of this two-part volume. DUFFER'S DRIFT features Lieutenant N. Backsight Forethought who is left, along with his men and a scattering of equipment, to guard a key geographical location (Duffer's Drift) during the Boer War. The story is told in a series of dreams, where in each dream, he arrives on location and has to set up, prepare defenses, scout, react and hold out until relieved. He fails each time but learns a bit more and applies what he learns to each subsequent dream, until he succeeds at his task.THE DEFENSE OF JISR AL-DOREAA is a similar tale with applications on the U.S. Army's experience in Iraq. The book also mentions the second story (again, that I'm aware of) inspired by the original, THE DEFENSE OF HILL 781 by James R. McDonough, disparaging it as being no longer useful to today's Army. A mistake, I feel. The lessons of DUFFER's DRIFT can be applied to the large mechanized force scenario outlined in HILL 781 as easily as they can be applied to AL-DOREAA. McDonough's PLATOON LEADER is cited as a better work; but I'd argue that the lessons that McDonough learned that lead to the writing of Platoon Leader are seen as well in Hill 781.This is an excellent pairing of the old and the new. I'd recommend this, along with the two by McDonough and a third (RIFLEMAN DODD, C.S. Forester) by any officer candidate or NCO school-bound NCO as well as for any NCO or officer deploying overseas.

In 'The Defense of Jisr-Al-Doreaa' the authors - relatively junior yet experienced company-grade officers of the US Army - have sought to update the Boer War vintage The Defence of Duffer's Drift to reflect modern military operations. While the modern version doesn't quite match the wit and flair of the original (which is included as an annex), this is a quick and easy read that closely follows the format of the original and imparts useful lessons/reminders for junior readers ranging from fundamental leader responsibilities to basic COIN conduct. This modern day 'Duffers Drift' has considerable potential as a training tool and catalyst for professional discussion for junior leaders, and will be of potential interest to any laymen interested in the theoretical and broad responsibilities of a junior officer in a COIN or security operation.

Ordered this book not knowing much about it other than it was COIN based. Finishing up my bachelor's degree and considering a masters in International Relations, my focus has been on COIN. This book, while not as in depth as Kilcullen's "Counterinsurgency" or "The Accidental Guerrilla" it illustrates examples of principles of COIN without being overtly analytical. Its a good read, a quick read, I finished this book in between reading Weber for school. If you'd like illustrative examples of small dilemma's in COIN and the realities faced for on the ground small unit commanders of COIN in Iraq this would be a good place to start. If you're a small unit commander, this would also be a good read, as our conflicts have tended to be more COIN related than anything else in the last 5 decades.

As a civilian with a less than firm grasp on the realities and practical aspects of warfare I found this book fascinating and informative. The historical perspective of the Boer War appendix shows both that not much has changed in 100 years....and a lot has changed. The authors give a quick glimpse into the professionalism and skills....and the incredible and varied demands made on our young officers. And you can read it in a couple of hours....and you will. Couple this with Kilcullen, John Nagl, Dexter Filkins and Bill Murphy's "In A Time of War" and you will have a small sense of the heroism, skill and intelligence, tragedy and hope that surround our modern serving soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.

Real good update of the classic Duffer's Drift. I bought my first copy for a cadet at West Point and will buy another for my cousin who's a brand new Scout in the Cav.

Bought this for preparation in pursuing a career as a military officer. The modern retelling of The Defense of Duffer's Drift really opened my eyes to some of the problems a platoon officer faces in warfare, especially in current conflicts. I learned a great deal from this book, some of which might save not only my life, but perhaps the lives of men that may be under my command.If you are serious about becoming a military officer, especially one geared towards an infantry role, give this book a read, or several reads!

The Author has done a sound job of adapting the orginal to a modern (though not necessarily different) conflict. The author covers off on considerations for operating within an asymmetric environment and presents it in a style that is easy to understand.As an Army Officer I would recommend this book to any young LT/NCO about to deploy to Afghanistan or similar theatre.

An EXCELLENT update to the "Drift" as well as adaptation of tactical principles/lessons to an urban environmment.

At the beginning of the book, he writes it from a young child's perspective and as he grows older, you see him develop into a man. I could relate to his story since I was adopted from India. I cried when he finally returned to China because I, too, felt the same happiness and sadness. I traveled to China in 1982 and saw the poverty that these people lived in and even came upon a woman with bound feet. Li really goes into detail of the poverty his family faced on a daily bases under Mao's rule and how he brainwashed the younger generation to believe in his philosophy. The older generation weren't gullible but were forced to comply. I watched one of Li's videos on Youtube and from listening to him speak, you feel the humility in this man even though he is a successful dancer and business man.

This is the inspirational tale of a boy/man who trains as a dancer in China under Mao’s communist regime. Told in a straight-forward, unembellished style, it presents countless fascinating details of daily life and relationships that present a vivid picture of what the author experiences. The account is especially moving because it offers insight into the lovable character of people once considered enemies by the United States. Li’s peasant family endures brutal hardship, working long hours every day, suffering extremes of weather and lack of food, and yet they are quite resigned and able to enjoy each other and the good they have. Even the broader community seems to rejoice with Li’s successes rather than wallow in self-pity or envy. The story evokes sympathy for people who suffer under communism, but are also vulnerable to official propaganda, as we all are.

I just finished this book, and picked it because I have visited China and had so many horrible and questionable things about when Mao was Chairman of China. This is a true story written by the main character, Li, a poor pheasant of a close family of 7 boys. It's amazing how poor the pheasants were during Mao's rule and what they did to survive. Very fortunately for Li, because of his body type, he was picked to go to the main Chinese ballet dance academy in Beijing at 11 years old. He was so young and homesick for two years, then really got into his dance with classes each day for 7 years. Li gets an opportunity to visit the Houston Ballet and sees how Americans are free and not the evil propaganda of the west that Chairman Mao brainwashed everyone in China to believe. Li falls in love in Houston, defects, divorces, remarries and has raises a family in Australia. He remains close to his big family and travels to China often and sees how China changes after Chairman Mao leaves office. The history involved in this book along with the juxtaposition of Li's personal life by this very good writer makes this for an amazing book! One I will always remember.

This fact shouldn't deter anyone from reading this moving account of a Chinese peasant boy's rise to fame as a ballet dancer and subsequent defection to the West.Plucked from the abject poverty of his large family by Mao's cultural warriors, Li is chosen to be a ballet dancer, primarily because he didn't scream when his tendons and ligaments were torn to test his flexibility. Although an unpromising student at first, he gradually improves and forms bonds with some of his teachers. Eventually he is allowed to travel to the United States and perform with the Houston Ballet. After returning home to China, he wangles a second visit to the States, becomes a star in the ballet company, secretly marries, and defects.There are many enlightening details in Li's narrative--the harsh life and near starvation existence of his childhood; the constant barrage of communist propaganda that he's exposed to as he's growing up; the overwhelming contrast of teeming Bejing, where he is schooled, to the rural squalor of his beloved home; and his astonishment at the "truth" of the West, which exposes Mao's teachings for what they are--lies.He feels guilty for abandoning his family and putting them at risk for retaliation by the Chinese government because of his defection. However, his parents, especially his mother, always wanted what was best for him--and that turned out to be escape. One could argue that the Chinese had trained him and given him the opportunity to achieve fame and fortune and that he responded with ingratitude. But he was always a pawn of the state, selected to perform in ballets long on propaganda and short on artistic merit.I think that this story would make profitable reading for older children and teens as well as adults.

This is a wonderful book, Li Cunxin's struggle against impossible odds to go from a life of abject poverty to become a great ballet dancer. As a writer, Li has a great ability to portray and convey how a given experience feels, whether his life as a small boy, dance school in Beijing, his defection in Houston, his unsuccessful first marriage, his growth and success as a world class ballet dancer. My only criticism is that towards the end of his book Li's successes seem unending. He is not only a great dancer, but a perfect father, husband, stockbroker etc. But, given Li's drive and resilience, perhaps that was inevitable. In the end, it is a worthy book to read.

I'm going to be very blunt here- the man is brilliant. He's no joke, he teaches graduate school at Columbia University. What sets this author apart from all other author is the fact he gives his work away, very rare. He has zero fluff or get rich schemes. Given my disability, I found myself rereading chapters due the high level concepts, which I'm sure the average reader will not have a difficult time grasping. After reading so many books without any real substance this will absolutely be the go to book "MUST HAVE BOOK". And NO, I did not receive a discount in return for a review. It will be nice if the author offers a live workshop for those who have zero chance of being accepted to Columbia.

I'm definitely a NOOB when it comes to real estate investing. I have many friends who do it successfully, but before I get into it seriously, I need an education! I purchased this along with Frank Gallinelli's other volume on financing real estate. Save yourself the $ and only buy this one. He regurgitates the same info from this in all three of his books. I learned a lot from this about how to analyze a deal and how to manage a property from a financial/quantative perspective which helps pull the emotion out and make real returns. Anyway, mission accomplished on this book; I've gotten the financial models I need.

And that is MATH!Like it or not, it's all about math. and being a university professor, the author has little remorse for your inability to comprehend the outline, review examples, practice the math, and reapply it at nearly every following financial measure.In any rich dad / cashflow club, I would much rather practice exercises in this book and others Frank has authored.He has also been a guest on the Bigger Pockets podcast very early on, quite possibly the second episode.The content is solid, almost nothing is vague. And certainly no formulas you might eventually find in "The Real Book of Real Estate" like "Wealth is E-X-O-T-I-C"FYI: I like Kiyosaki, but I like things that are straight to the point, and work. This book is full of tangible, mathematical information that can be quantified and applied to every real estate deal from front cover to back cover.

I come with finance background and this is a very useful refresher and with great information. Flow of information and book was easy to read as well.Actually using it right now to assist in underwriting a 100 unit to derive value of a property I'm looking at. Also great step by step in showing you how to create pro-forma and create scenarios that allow investor to understand what value you can bring to yourself or your investors.

Read this book twice. This is an amazing tool, and a must-read for anyone who wants to get serious about knowing Real Estate finance and cash flow. I will probably read it a third time. Know this material, and you will be sure to impress.

DCR, IRR, NOI, CAP rate ... the whole alphabet soup of real estate (and many can be applied to non-real estate business) financial ratios are all in this book. Every chapter starts off with the overall concept of the meaning of the ratio covered in that particular chapter, usually within one to two pages and then follows up with a few examples with concise and to the point explanations. I almost bought some commercial properties with a business line of credit for downpayment and even made my own spreadsheet to do my due diligence. Try as I may, the numbers were putting me upside down and the interest rate on my proposed downpayment was really nagging at me and 'not working.' Mr. Gallinelli explains to us why that is so. He gets my two-thumbs up for saving my hide from financial ruin. Thank you, Frank, for explaining ALL the ratios and concepts in an easy-to-understand, straight forward manner. Every investor needs to know these ratios before going into an investment. Mr. Gallinelli's other books are also highly recommended.

Great reference for us- new to dental xray

This book is very comprehensive and well written. It will be an invaluable tool for anyone's library that is interested in veterinary dentistry!

Excellent book

This book fills one need in that it provides a lot of photos of normal dental rads to compare to the photos of abnormal rads. In other words, it makes it easy to figure out if you are looking at disease on dental radiographs. This book falls short in one area, and that is providing guidance on what treatment is warranted in what situation. It illustrates what disease looks like, but doesn't say when you should leave a tooth in place vs extraction vs root canal, etc.

Use this at work and I love how it helps when learning about dental radiography. The Doctors I work with like it too.

Book is great but color images have printer streaks throughout the book

This book has great photos, descriptions of lesions, and diagrams of how to get the radiograph you want. The chapter on equipment could be more comprehensive.
