Just what I needed. In 2017, I will become the secretary of our local real estate board. After sitting through meeting after meeting this year as a local director and bumbling along, I felt it was time that I learned consistant and correct meeting protocal. I have finished half of the book (as it is a very quick read) and already found that many of my meeting questions have been answers. Very impressed.

It was an excellent book for those looking to start an organization from the ground up. For those who have a smattering of familiarity of Robert's Rules much of the book will go over processes that one may know. However, don't skip through the book, as there are a number of details that will add so much to your deeper understanding.

Not very-well written and I thought it was missing important information. Also, the book mocked the Fraternal Order of the Elks, which was not necessary to make their point and it was tacky. No listed author either.

Bought this as gift for our Associations newly elected President. MUCH easier to understand than original Roberts Rules of Order

Overall meeting format very much appreciated. Negative..not enough detail.

The chapter on charters, bylaws, and policies encouraged me to reorganize the document of the organization I chair to make the document more sensible and useable.

If I had to sum up my reaction to "Fringe: September's Notebook" in one word, that word would be "Wow!"I can't say I was a fanatic "Fringe" follower during much of the show's five-year run. In fact, it took me a season or so to really get into it. Having cut my teeth on "The X-Files," so to speak, I was at first a little disappointed in "Fringe" when the episodes aired. But I later came to enjoy it very much. I grieved when the series ended and left a big black hole in my Friday night activity schedule. However, I have all the season DVD sets so far available, and I'm watching episodes on a semi-regular basis. I'm even more impressed the second time around."Fringe: September's Notebook" is an outstanding resource that has added immeasurably to my interest in, respect for and understanding of the series. I can't praise it enough. Having read the unanimous five-star reviews before my copy showed up, I had very high expectations of what awaited my eager perusal when I opened the Amazon box. As I carefully slit and then removed the protective plastic wrapper, I immediately realized the book far exceeded even my highest expectations! Visually, stylistically and physically stunning, the "notebook" is absolutely chock-full of "stuff" that is sure to captivate any "Fringe" fan. Crystal-clear color photographs adorn every page. I didn't count them, but there must be several hundred of them. The text is small and dense, and packed with the most detailed, esoteric information imaginable about the incredibly rich, complex and fine-textured "Fringe" universe(s), episodes, events and characters. Envelopes bound into the book contain some really neat extras. Tabbed card-stock dividers add a cool faux-FBI-file aura to the whole thing. There's no way any reader could possibly read and digest this book straight through cover-to-cover. Rather, read it slowly and savor it, a little at a time, like a fine Port. At least that's how I'm doing it--it's a perfect companion to the DVD sets, and I'm looking forward to literally months of enjoyment nibbling away at this invaluable tome as I work my way through the series again."Fringe: September's Notebook" is truly a remarkable achievement on the part of authors Tara Bennett and Paul Terry, and it celebrates a remarkable achievement in network television. This is an incredible book for all fans of Fringe. I'm one, and I'm thrilled by it.It's put together and presented in beautiful scrapbook style. Included are insets, removable items, posters. The book edges have navigation tabs coming out like those you case files you normally see on TV. Full marks for presentation.In terms of content, this book is packed with an amazing amount of information and pictures.The book covers in detail both the universes and the other timeline. You have Walter's history, stories about Peter's illness that leads to the crossing of the universe, Cortexiphan Trails, Massive Dynamic and their secret projects, Fringe division and all their agents and the cases they have worked on. That's just for the original universe.In the later sections of the book, it looks at all the differences between the universes and timelines. So you have Walter(nate) and all the Fringe doubles from the alternate universe.There's a lot to read. It's a good recap as the events are presented in more linear and hence clearer. You'll also get some insight because September's observations can be found in little blue notes all over the book. These are stuff you don't get from just watching the show, and there are many other nuggets of information.The pictures are great, and there are loads of them. There are the strange symbols from the opening credits, photos of the past Observers caught on camera, characters, news articles, graphics from the other universe, props, the time machine, gory pictures from cases, and more!It's a pretty comprehensive companion to the show.Highly recommended.All Fringe fans should have this book.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. I was hesitant to buy this based on some reviews but after receiving this book I am pleasantly surprised and very much pleased. I loved Fringe and while some of the criticism of this book is that it simply repeats things we already know I found myself still interested in having the series compiled in one place. I have the hardcover and it is a hefty book! You will get your moneys worth and your fandom of Fringe will be appeased. It is worth the purchase.

For a true Fringe fan, this book is fantastic! It is arranged as though it was a case book for each episode including photos, case notes and summaries, connections with earlier cases, and occasional notes from Observers. It’s quite large, and made of top-quality materials. I learned things that I missed even though I’ve been through the whole series several times. It’s a must-have!

This is much more than I expected and is going to take a lot of reading. I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed the complete Fringe series and this notebook, written from the observer, September's, point of view is more than interesting, it is riviting. I can see that I will still be reading this in several months time because, however hard it is to put down, it is just as hard to take it all in other than slowly. Whoever thought this up has an incredible mind and I must use this platform to try to garner as much support as possible to say PLEASE BRING THE FRINGE TEAM BACK - PLEASE. I refuse to accept that they cannot come back in another time dimention and I am sure that September may well agree with me by the time I reach the end of his notebook.Pam ConradsEngland

What a well done addition to the TV series for every fan! The book contains all necessary information about characters and events of Fringe. It also filled a few holes for me - details that I did not catch while watching the episodes. It is an excellent summary, done very well by alternating between character descriptions, case files, and description of the overall story arch.

Across the Ages is the first installment in Workman’s Across the Ages Time Travel Series.

But disliked the fact that it ran out at 65%, and another story plug began. If there was a warning about this, I surely don't remember it.

Quick and entertaining read that will leave you excited for Book Two. Shorter read than expected, with fun and relateable characters who bring you across the ages with them. Will is arrogant and Lucy selflessly humble and independent, with attraction that is endearing in the classic opposites who inevitably attract.Workman has written an engaging story that will keep you enthralled with anticipation for the next in this series. I found myself disappointed that there was only one gripping climax that left me wanting at the end and a little unsatisfied due to its abruptness. Workman has created a light-hearted read that brings the classical era into the modern times and back again flawlessly, with an enjoyable mix of action, romance, mystery and just plain fun!~Book Stalking PR Reviewed

The only negative, a bit of a cliff hanger. I truly hate it when books are divided. In those cases IF I buy the first, book 1, I rately buy any of the rest . If there are 2, I will consider it if there are enough pages to make it worth the money. This is the first time travel book I've read in a long time that has all the elements I like. The main characters were very likeable. Just enough description of the lesser characters to give them life. An interesting story. I have read none like it. I love paranormal, old england and time travel. Perfect recipe for me.

It was different than I thought it was going to be, but the story drew me in all the same. I didn’t want to put it down, and stayed up until the early morning hours reading to find out what happened next. It lost my interest a bit when the main character Lucy and her true love Will were captured by supernatural lions that were controlled by a “god.” I like science fiction and Mythological creatures, but that part of the story seemed a little stretched. Overall it was a good, easy read.

I felt like I was taken back in time as I read. Everything seemed so realistic and right on the money as Lucy traveled forward to the present and everything she had to learn about technology. However, two things irked me. First, the head-hopping. Although there wasn't much of it, that's a huge pet peeve of mine. Second, there was no mention of a cliffhanger, so be warned.

Lucy someone who is being forced to marry Dashel who she has known from childhood but does not love . but her Grandmother Agatha gave her a necklace amulet . that if she takes it is will take her to her true love .. but will her true love be Dashel or will it be someone else ..Will someone who finds artifacts as well as many other things who knows Lucy's true grandfather .. will Lucy want Will or Dashel if she takes her Grandmothers advice or stay with Dashel and accept that she don't love him in the way he needs her to .. anyways probably last book before christmas lol but not the last book of the year ..

Lucy Channing lives in 1815 in England. She is supposed to marry her childhood best friend… Whom she does not love romantically. Holding out that something will change her fate, Lucy’s grandmother comes through with a locket to transport Lucy to her true love. Traveling to 2015 is quite a shock to Lucy, especially when the first person she meets is the arrogant, egotistical William Godwin.The first chapter was completely unnecessary and was only mildly related to the story told in the rest of the novel. I skimmed it so I could get to the actual story being told.Lucy lives a typical life in the 1800’s in her class, but she has atypical feelings for a woman in her time. She thinks she can marry for love and passion and is not satisfied with her soon to be betrothed because she is not in love with him. Because she still loved him as a friend, it wasn’t that big a deal for her to find her ‘true love’ because the match was a good one! She could have learned to love Dashel and had a good life.I absolutely enjoyed every minute and thought Lucy had when she was spirited 200 years into the future. I understood so well what she was going through because it was described in great detail and her thoughts were spot on. She was a traveler in a new land and new time and new world.I didn’t believe in the romance between Lucy and her ‘true love’ William. It felt forced and rushed.The pacing was very uneven and the ending was incredibly rushed and then abruptly left off. I will not be reading further.

To abuse a child with this magnitude of forced punishment , I feel the parents should receive it back 10 fold. As far as the mom having a baby and making the daughter the caregiver is no surprise to me. As I've seen throughout the years people actually think their other children are supposed to help them take care of the younger/ youngest children. It's okay for them to help out at times. Truthfully if you had that child regardless how many you have, it's the parents job to tend to her child or limit the volume you produce if you think your kids is our free help. The mother in this story was so reckless but dad is a wimp. At age of 7 this child endured so much she could have died. Looking at her parents and their jobs and status in the community the first thing one would say " Oh, Dad's a doctor and mom a teacher they wouldn't do anything like that."Newsflash- It doesn't take a certain type, kind, color, or race. No one is ezcluded. Things like this are still going on now. So the next a child catches your eye and something just don't seem right in your gut, follow your first mind and ask a simple question in privacy. Because I was one of these kids.

Mother at Seven is one of the most riveting trues stories of child abuse that I have ever read. At the age of seven this gifted and loved Armenian child living in Sochi Russia was emotionally rejected by her Mother the moment her baby Brother is born. While her Mother, a teacher takes her maternity leave little Veronika is charged with caring for her infant Brother, taking care of the household, and competing in the food lines in Russia for food supplies. Veronika’s absent Father is gone working most of the time. Things get worse for this child once she falls behind in school and is subjected to heartless and inhumane “discipline” by a family member throughout her childhood. This is not a book that is just about child abuse,but’s about the strength and faith of this little Girl and how she managed to endure abuse and heartbreak, but still hold on to her dreams. I highly recommend this book. This story will stay with you as a lesson of the power of inner strength despite constant hardship.

This is undoubtedly a severe story of child abuse. Unfortunately the authors stance is so self righteous that it grates. it is irritating the way she keeps changing from the child’s view to the adult’s. When she describes what she had to do in a single day it doesn’t add up and it becomes clear that she is exaggerating which is annoying. Takes away from the fact that this is indeed a very very sad story and I am happy she survived

A sad story of child abuse but poorly written (maybe because English is her 2nd language?) there are discrepancies in her timeline that left me with a lot of questions especially considering her early childhood took place when Russia was still under Communist control. If you focus your thoughts just about the story of abuse and not also on how people lived under communism you will get more from the story than I, I understand she was trying to reiterate the fact food was scarce at times but from listening to my relatives that lived under Communism this family was actually blessed compared to most people as far as obtaining food.The ending was abrupt as many of the reviews state and I am hoping a sequel is in the making to clear up some questions like what ever happened to her Uncle, Mother, Father, Brother and boyfriend?

I consider this type of brutal abuse a crime against humanity. So many children in the world are faced with starvation and abuse. The importance of this book is that the parents were professional people. The abuse took place hidden in a household, which made it all the more dangerous. Also, the abuse was deliberate, sadistic and ritualistic. The message of the story is to always report abuse, even if you will make enemies against your neighbors or relatives. Were they worth knowing anyway? This book moves well, not becoming weighed down with endless details unless the situation called for more in-depth coverage. I'm completely curious about the sequel.

This book was the kind of book you can not put down. What a brave little girl who as also there for her little Brother. I cried at times & wantedto jump in the book & save her from all the abuse she suffered. I did not want the book to end. There was so many thing she wrote in her littlebook, a lot about her Grand Father. I was not happy with how it ended that I hope there is a second book to it. I do not want to give the endingaway. I would recommend this book.

No book about abuse had ever made me more angry. After a lifetime of horrendous abuse forced upon this child by her parents and turning their infant son over to her to raise (and fall in love with), in the end, when she finally found love and an escape, her parents engineered a way to snatch everything from her. Every time I think about the parents in this book, I feel rage.

I hated when the book ended as wanted it to go on so I could see how she overcame living in the US , what she did with her career, her law studies and her marrying ? My heart was breaking over the horrid horrid treatment she received from such a vicious man and her mothers overnight change of heart- her fathers lack of concern or just never being aware of her horrible beatings and then my heart would soar as I read on and saw her incredible strength of mind , body and spirit!Excellent read - Can’t wait to read her next book (s)

About the Author

Gary Harwood has been a photographer for Kent State University for more than 22 years and chief photographer since 1987. He has won four national Circle of Excellence awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), was named the 2001 University Photographers Association of America’s Photographer of the Year, and won the 2005 James R. Gordon Ohio Understanding Award from the Ohio News Photographers Association (ONPA). His work has appeared in numerous national publications, including the Communication Arts Photo Annual and the Graphis Photo Annual, and he received the 2006 Individual Artist grant for photography and the 2005 Artists and Communities grant from the Ohio Arts Council. David Hassler is the author of two books of poems, Sabishi: poems from japan and Red Kimono, Yellow Barn. He is co-editor of A Place to Grow: Voices and Images of Urban Gardeners and Learning by Heart: Contemporary American Poetry about School. A recipient of an individual Artist Fellowship and an “Artists and Communities” grant from the Ohio Arts Council, and of the Richard Devine Memorial award for poetry, his poems and essays have appeared in Prairie Schooner, The Sun, Double-Take/Points of Entry, Indiana Review, and other journals. This wonderful book is so needed in this era of immigrant-bashing.I discovered "Growing Season" after a segment of it was excerpted in "The Sun" magazine. It's such a pleasure to hear the stories of people from Latin America and those who work with them, and how the so-called "problem" or "invasion" of immigrants has actually provided benefits for countless people on both sides of the border.Citizens of the US, the world's superpower, should also keep in mind that it is policies that emanate from Wall Street and the Pentagon that have forced so many people to come here in the first place. We owe our Latin American brothers and sisters a warm welcome, even an apology, for the generations of exploiting their labor and resources (see books like "The Annexation of Mexico" by John Ross or "Turning the Tide" by Noam Chomsky").I'm going to buy an extra copy of this book and send it to Representative Tom Tancredo, one of this nation's leading demagogues on the issue of immigration.

This is the best book for learning the ukulele that I have ever owned. It is perfect for beginners, intermediate, or advanced players. It has everything; chords, strumming, tab, notes, songs, styles and above all else humor. It is written by someone who through self-instruction, hard work and curiosity has become a master guru of the instrument. At the same time the author is plain-spoken, to-the-point, funny and keenly adept at reaching the heart of a self-learner.I got bit by the ukulele bug when I purchased a Martin Backpacker on ebay for $60. That was over 10 years and 20 or so ukuleles ago. During my quest for ukulele perfection I have enjoyed many ukulele instructionals. "Ukulele for Dummies" is more useful than all of them put together. It can be used in a linear fashion, going from one chapter to the next. Or you can hunt and peck to learn; brushing up on the subjects you are interested in improving or focusing on. I'm not turned off by the "dummies" label. In fact, I like a book that explains things clearly as if I'm starting from scratch. Musicians often act like they know more than they know, and "Ukulele for Dummies" wades through the music-speak and makes things clear and to the point. That is not to say that it is dumbed-down or condescending. It is not! The reader is treated with great respect and there is not a hint of patronization. You will not feel as though your intelligence is being insulted in any way. In fact, the inside jokes will make you feel smarter and "in the know".This book gives background beyond the ukulele experience, explaining different styles, giving a little history and then giving song examples of that style and how to play it. To quote Ukulele Enthusiast and Ukulelia.com blogger Craig Robertson - "Ukulele for Dummies" is a "marvelous compendium of ukulele knowledge that takes you from novice to expert."If you are a beginner on the uke, or looking to learn, I highly recommend this book. It is a great place to begin and learn. If you are someone who has been playing for awhile, I highly recommend this book. You will find pockets of instruction to help you improve. If you are an advanced player, I recommend this book. I believe you too, will find nuggets of musical and ukulele facts and ideas to add to your repertoire. If you are an expert Ukuleleist you will enjoy this book for the background and humor. Or you can highlight your name and show it to friends, since you are most likely mentioned somewhere in the book.I have been following ukulelehunt.com since it's inception and I love it. It has been a great home for learning all things ukulele. Because of this, I had high expectations for this book and they met and exceeded my expectations in every aspect. I find the writing to be friendly, direct and very entertaining. Playing the ukulele should not be stuffy business, and Alistair Wood does a fine job of infusing wry humor into the learning to help keep things in perspective. Buy this book for yourself or for someone in your life who wants to join the pursuit of ukulele enjoyment.

This book is very helpful to me when used in combination with video tutorials on a popular video site. It's easy to follow. I wish they would have posted pictures of the chords you've just learned on the song page so flipping back and forth isn't needed. I forget new chords quickly and having them on the same page would be better. They do that later on the book when songs are more complicated, though. I guess it's just me...haha. Good resource for me.

this is by far the best fully comprehensive Ukulele lesson book i have ever seen. it is a thick book at almost 350 pages, and includes a CD. It starts out for someone who has never even touched a Uke before, and goes deep into more intense skills, so someone very experienced could pick it up and learn a thing or 2. I am somewhere in the middle, i used to be pretty good, but havent played for 7 years, so im just trying to get back into it. This book is just perfect for me! I have replaced most of the other books i had, and donated them elsewhere, because this one is so huge and packed with good stuff. Do yourself a favor and buy this one instead of messing around with poorly written begginers books, and overly complex intermediate-advanced books.I own somewhere around 20 different Uke books, including the super basics ("my dog has fleas") on up so some finger picking solo books, and this is by far my favorite one. I was sceptical buying it, cause i figured it could be kinda cheezy, or done poorly, but seriously this book is so well written, and the way it lists the tabs makes it easy for your mind to start memorizing notes. I hate when books give you the pictured diagram above the notes for the first 2 pages then drop off for the rest of the thing like youve suddenly become a pro! (this one does not do that)I would highly, HIGHLY, HIGHLY, recommend this book to any new Uke player (seriously, please buy this before any oither book), and still highly recommend it to any experienced players to help tune your skills and methods.

Those of us who have grown up with the various idiot, dunce and dummy type books (my first was on the maintenance and repair of my VW bug) have no doubt considered the Complete Idiot and this Dummie version. I always do extensive net research to find a consensus and this Dummie book won, hands down. I was also impressed by the considerable respect for the author whose "Ukulelehunt" website is a common destination for ukulele players on the net.As a percussionist who also has played with piano, harmonica and guitar - and who has also built an instrument, I was impressed with his well-organized, hold-your-hand and explanatory approach that really covers anything most ukulele dummies like me are likely to need. Every single aspect is covered from a bit of history, how to choose/buy, prepare and maintain, including some troubleshooting most people can do. I particularly liked his coverage of the various "styles" of playing, from basic Hawaiian type strumming, to plucking, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Classical and "Jawaiian" (a Jamaican style).Neat. What I love about the ukulele and this book, is how it's possible to get going and actually play songs with only a few fingerings/chords along with a few different strumming techniques. A good book by a competent author who knows his subject and knows how to teach it.

Great book! A really great introduction to the different styles of ukulele. I had actually bought Ukulele Exercises for Dummies first, but this book was so strongly recommended in the beginning that I stopped and bought the Kindle version for my iPad and went through it on there. I'm so glad I did! It was a much better introduction and prepared for the more advance stuff in the Ukulele Exercises. I had to enlarge the pages for the songs but they were very playable, though it was a little tedious to change pages for the few multi-page songs. I liked it so much that I'm considering buying a print version for my library. Get this book!
