After reading it I have a much more complete understanding of what Scripture means when it speaks of Satan being “the god of this world” and how the “whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” Gary Wayne makes a pretty convincing case for understanding the "sons of God” in Genesis 6:4 to be fallen angels who copulated with human women to produce races of giants. Adopting this view makes a number of Scripture passages come into clearer focus such as 1 Peter 3:19-20 and Jude 6. He argues that the seed of the serpent referred to in Genesis 3 is a physical seed that can be traced through Scripture and human history that will resurface in a visible, literal way in the end times. Wayne shows us the historical and philosophical connectivity between seemingly diverse movements and organizations such as gnosticism, pantheism, evolution, Free Masonry and even some Catholic orders. Satan truly disguises himself as an “angel of light.”But a word of caution is in order here. The reader must always keep in mind that much of the evidence Wayne leverages to support some of his claims is based in material that is legendary, apocryphal and mythological in nature. His conviction is that even if these sources differ with Scripture and with each other in detail there is enough agreement between them to conclude they witness to some substantive reality. Wayne quotes the old proverb, “Where there is smoke there is fire.” I tend to agree but it may also be true sometimes that legends and myths have no foundation in reality but rather give birth to one another.At times Wayne draws conclusions that may be superficial with regard to movements and events which have plausible alternate historical explanations. At various points readers need to check out what others have to say rather than just take Gary Wayne’s word for it.This is a big read of almost 700 pages (not including the bibliography) that suffers from repetitiveness and tedium after a certain point. Wayne’s main points are already well-developed by the time the reader gets to the mid-point of the book.My biggest concern comes at the very end of the book where Wayne advocates embracing the Koran as a source of truth alongside the Judeo-Christian Scriptures. At various points he also seems to endorse all monotheistic faith traditions as valid expressions of truth in opposition to gnosticism and pantheism.

I have been studying conspiracies for decades, and have a GREAT nose for "signal to noise ratio" of quality of stuff. you can tell fairly on if a book or writing is leading you nowhere. this, thankfully, is NOT one of those books. on the other hand, for someone really serious about "all of it" and the deceptions mankind has been led by and to, this book will open your eyes. I have slowly been making my way back to conspiratorial work with a christian perspective, and as I did, it all made much more sense. in that sense, you can see the avoidance of this angle as a conspiracy in itself! when I watch some of ancient aliens, the evil and demonic angle seems to be avoided at all costs.this book is worth every penny. I have it on kindle and plan on owning a hardcopy as well. there are no slow spots and it is always explained in a way that makes sense and is very deep and truth telling at the same time. two things that are tough to do at the same time

Great read. Well researched. Mr.Wayne has done his homework. Easy to read. Chapters are short so you can put it down and pick it back up with ease. Pay no attention to the reviewers stating Mr.Wayne's book contradicts scripture. When he quotes any other source than the Bible it is only to show how other religions speak of the same subjects from their perspective. THE definitive book on this subject.

Wonderful little book about everyday life in a small town. I especially enjoyed the last chapter which was pure fiction where the other storys were based on real happenings. So different from his novels.Chris Bohjalian is a truly unique author. If you have never read any of his books you are missing out on some most interesting stories.

I loved this book. It's a little different for Chris Bohjalian, but some great little stories about small town life. Many were very touching. Highly recommen this book!

I enjoyed this book as it reminded me so much of the people and small town I live in in Galice, OR 30 years ago and even to this day. Water witchers do exist and I can relate to the spiritualism that the author is referring to in his characters portrayed. Was a fun and interesting book.

As a budding fashion designer looking to create her own outlet shop to sell my line of clothing this book was helpful for getting a start. I would recommend the book to anyone looking to get into retail!

I really liked this book.It was very Descriptive & resourceful.It taught me everything i needed to learn about the clothing retail business.If your interested in opening your own clothing business this is the book for you!

I have to disagree with the previous poster. The book doesn't try to discourage the reader from getting into the retail business, it just points out that the retail business is a risky one that may not turn a profit for years. This book gives some helpful advice for would-be retailers as well as established ones, and also points you in the direction of some associations that can help (i.e., S.C.O.R.E. ). I definately reccomend it.

I thought that this book was realistic, rather than discouraging. Unlike some other books about retail startup, it assumed some previous reatil knowledge on the part of the reader (which makes sense... you probably shouldn't think of opening a store if you have no retail experience at all!) Cost startup worksheets were particularly helpful.

Its a good summery of what the typcial clothing shop is like and gives a lot of general information but doesn't explain how to do those things. Example, the books says a computer system can help me track inventory but doesn't tell me how, what i need, where can i find such a system or what are some good software to do that

I bought this book hoping to get ideas of what to do and what to expect but instead all i got was discouraged and upset, with every page the author makes you feel it is imposible to start your own clothing store and that you should basicaly find another dream.... well i have acomplished a few of my biggest dreams in life so far and i know that books like these and people like the author are those people out there who are not dreamers but people who lead very simple and risk free lives. I refuse for any one to make me feel like i should just give up because its going to be to hard!!! you have to keep going and risk a little for your dreams,so to any one looking to buy this book i suggest not taking it seriuosly, I know from personal experience that dreaming big can realy pay off and dont let any one break that for you. if we did not have dreamers out there and only had the people who think every thing is imposible would we have: celebrities? Big Designers? the Light bulb?? gone into outer space???Continue your road to your dream..... you will get there with or with out this book!!!!

We rely, in this world, on the visual aspects of humanity as a means of learning who we are. This, Ralph Ellison argues convincingly, is a dangerous habit. A classic from the moment it first appeared in 1952, Invisible Man chronicles the travels of its narrator, a young, nameless black man, as he moves through the hellish levels of American intolerance and cultural blindness. Searching for a context in which to know himself, he exists in a very peculiar state. "I am an invisible man," he says in his prologue. "When they approach me they see only my surroundings, themselves, or figments of their imagination--indeed, everything and anything except me." But this is hard-won self-knowledge, earned over the course of many years. As the book gets started, the narrator is expelled from his Southern Negro college for inadvertently showing a white trustee the reality of black life in the south, including an incestuous farmer and a rural whorehouse. The college director chastises him: "Why, the dumbest black bastard in the cotton patch knows that the only way to please a white man is to tell him a lie! What kind of an education are you getting around here?" Mystified, the narrator moves north to New York City, where the truth, at least as he perceives it, is dealt another blow when he learns that his former headmaster's recommendation letters are, in fact, letters of condemnation. What ensues is a search for what truth actually is, which proves to be supremely elusive. The narrator becomes a spokesman for a mixed-race band of social activists called "The Brotherhood" and believes he is fighting for equality. Once again, he realizes he's been duped into believing what he thought was the truth, when in fact it is only another variation. Of the Brothers, he eventually discerns: "They were blind, bat blind, moving only by the echoed sounds of their voices. And because they were blind they would destroy themselves.... Here I thought they accepted me because they felt that color made no difference, when in reality it made no difference because they didn't see either color or men." Invisible Man is certainly a book about race in America, and sadly enough, few of the problems it chronicles have disappeared even now. But Ellison's first novel transcends such a narrow definition. It's also a book about the human race stumbling down the path to identity, challenged and successful to varying degrees. None of us can ever be sure of the truth beyond ourselves, and possibly not even there. The Time Machine is H. G. Wells’s tale of a 19th century English gentleman who travels 800,000 years into the future. Expecting to find the pinnacle of human civilization, he is instead faced with a dysfunctional dual society of the surface dwelling, child-like Eloi, and the subterranean, nocturnal, carnivorous Morlocks.This is a relatively short, simple story. I’m sure there are anthropologists and sociologists who could write doctoral theses on this work. As I am neither, I’ll leave it at two short paragraphs.

Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man shouldn't be confused with H.G. Wells' The Invisible Man. While the sci-fi classic deals with literal invisibility, the unnamed black man who narrates his story in Ellison's novel is only figuratively invisible. We meet him at the end of his story, living in a New York City basement that he's lit up brightly by siphoning power from the utility. Ellison doesn't belabor the metaphor...right from the start, the narrator tells us that it's his status as a black man in mid-century America that renders him effectively invisible.The novel is made up of his story and how he came to recognize his own non-entity status. And it hits you in the gut right away: the first incident he relates from his life is when he's awarded a scholarship from a prestigious philanthropic organization in the small Southern town in which he grows up. He's invited to a country club dinner to make a speech about his scholarship, but once he gets there, he and several other young black men are forced to fight each other and be humiliated chasing for electrified coins. Only after he's been degraded is he allowed to give his speech and receive the scholarship and the briefcase. It's a horrifying sequence, incredibly difficult to read, and the book is just getting started.This experience, and the ones that the narrator has at a black college and then in New York are rooted in a fundamental denial of his humanity. He's entertainment, or a tool, or an experiment, or just disposable. He struggles and fights and gets up after being knocked down over and over again, but he can't escape the fact of his race and the broad social structures designed to keep him and other black men firmly in the underclass. And while things have gotten better today, it's maybe not as much better as we'd like to think.This is a hard book to read. Not because of the quality...Ellison's writing is incredible. But it's heavy and dark and the unending awfulness of what the narrator is subjected to is a lot to get your head around. I usually try not to get heavily into politics on this blog, but I read this book right after the 2016 election, and it really made me think about the racism that persists in our society.

With my being so finicky about the books I choose to read, I have relatively high expectations for what lies within each one. I've seen this book for awhile now, and on many recommended reads within Black Literature. With such a vague cover and an even more ambiguous title, I found myself constantly overlooking it without realizing that I had seen this book right in front of me time and time again, as I searched for my next enlightening piece of history. I realize now with the book being so inconspicuous, that the title itself is actually quite fitting.Prior to reading Invisible Man, I hadn't heard much about it. No recommendations or opinions from others. So there was no way for me to foresee the impact the story would have on me. No way to envisage how eventful and substantial this book would be. No way to anticipate the perspective given to me, from the author, of this black man in America. No way for me to expect the change made to MY perspective as a Black American. After experiencing this painful truth, there was no way I could have conceived that the very people in my life may be "Invisible," and that I myself am invisible as well.The protagonist did not expect to experience the harsh realities of his existence. More specifically, to experience a journey that he had not planned for, but had plans for him; to meet with a number of individuals that would alter his perspective on being black in a white country; not expecting to ultimately realize that he never accurately knew himself in the first place. The Invisible Man struggles to live in a world where people choose to see him as THEY want to see him, and not for who he truly is. I felt deeply connected with both the mental plight of the protagonist, and his lonesome walk of life.Author Ralph Ellison paints the most vivid picture of an incredible story. With it's outstanding descriptiveness, and incredible symbolism, this book is nothing short of a masterpiece. While it may be tough to grasp all of it's messages and comprehend each metaphor in one read, it's a page turning experience that unforgivably takes a hold of your emotions without ever letting go. This book is an essential read for a number of reasons, however, two of them strike me as the most palpable. The first being its accurate portrayal of racism in America. Ellison takes us inside the mind of the protagonist as he experiences and discovers hateful discrimination in many forms. As well as many perspectives on racism though multiple characters in the book. And second, though it goes without saying how well written and beautiful the novel is, I was astounded by the overall genius of Ellison's vision. With how meticulous and well crafted this work of art is, it came as no surprise when I learned that it took Ellison roughly seven years to complete this book. The ideas presented in this book, though written nearly 70 years ago, still resonate deeply in today's society. I consider myself fortunate to have graced its pages. Easily a 5 star book, and one of the best books I've ever read.

This book is an amazing tale of a man finding his place in a country that seemingly doesn't have one for him. The themes are pressing to this day and it is beautifully written. The concluding line is crushingly poignant and everyone should read this book. If I have one piece of advice it is to watch the video Crash Course Literature: Invisble Man on this book it is incredible and made me love the book more. Elison's book will withstand time.
