I have mixed feelings about the Walter Foster books. They have been around for years and know what they are doing. The quality is the best ever with good, high-gloss reproductions, and great content - materials, composition, step-by-step instructions, etc. But some of the artists and artwork included are just not my style and are too complex for the average beginner or advanced beginner. But there are some real gems in here of artists I like with doable instructions. There is enough in here to be very useful.

I had been using my old outdated copy for a couple decades when I decided to get a new one. It looked great, but was very dissapointed when I found that many of the things, like smaller campgrounds, were missing from the new version - even ones that had been on the old version.

This is pretty good. We use it (as opposed to just storing it on the shelf). But for the money, we like the Michigan County Atlas better. The roads seem better depicted, plus you get histories and points of interest.

The DeLorme line of topo maps is a travel must for my family. I have found more amazing little out-of-the-way places with these maps than I ever could have with a "take the next left" app. There simply is no alternative to opening the map and plotting your course for the day!

We took a remote vacation through northern Michigan. This map is great because it shows all the smaller roads; tells you what's paved and what isn't - gives a good sense for where the towns are and how big they are.

The DeLorme Gazeteers are a MUST HAVE for navigating and exploring, and a helpful backup for when your GPS/phone nav doesn't work well. I keep one in each car; this one replaces a well-loved, tattered, older addition.

I think I had too many expectations, perhaps, but it seems a bit harder to use than I expected it would be, and isn't as detailed as I would have liked. Still, it is much easier on the eyes than a typical map, and I am glad I got it.

This is a great gazetteer for the state, especially for those folks who do not want to totally rely on possibly erroneous GPS directions. I wish it included enlargements of the larger cities, though.

This is an excellent map. There may be a few more-detailed maps out there, but likely not many. I really like all the Gazatteer maps and this one is no exception. Highly recommended.

As I was reading the first chapter, there was already so much information I decided to go back and read it again and start underlining and highlighting. Then I did the same thing as I got to chapter 4. I'm actually going to start over again and this time type out notes of my underlinings, etc. You will want to follow along in your Bible as you read this book to get a good grasp of everything . 2 things that make this book cool is it's thick, so there is a lot to read. Second, it answers all the difficult passages you may have questions about like with Paul, doing away with the law, kosher laws, shabbat, etc. Sheds light on everything. Get this book!

Based on living and traveling in Iran for an extended time under the Shah, speaking passable Persian, and visiting for 10 days in 2011, I found two kinds of things in this book: Things I know are correct; and things that ring true, which I wish I had known. I had a couple of little nit-picky disagreements with the text, but this may simply be that I lived in different places or travelled in different circles.Another commenter suggested this book missed a little on politics. I can't speak to that.The bottom line is that Iranians are gracious hosts, being in Iran is a delight, and I always felt safe and secure.

My wife and I are planning a three week visit to Iran at the end of April. Although we are frequent travellers to off beat destinations I must admit to a deal of trepidation about this trip. I found William's book immensely readable and full of balanced and useful information. I commend the book as a very useful introduction to travel to Iran.

Covers a number of quirky things and the culture really well.I dipped in and out of it while in Iran. It was an easy read.

A quick guide especially useful when talking to Iranians both here and elsewhere

Useful, brief and basic infirmatiom.

These little books are always worthwhile in my opinion for foreign countries. I'd really rather leave Iran than stay in one of their prisons.

First, PLEASE ignore the reviews that are complaining about the lack of detail in this book. This is a companion training guide to THINNER, LEANER AND STRONGER. This book lays out a complete year long training plan and functions as a notebook to log your progress if you like. You should definitely look at THINNER, LEANER AND STRONGER before starting this training plan.I bought this book for my wife who was looking to change up her workout this year. I had recently read Mike Matthew's book for men and have really been enjoying and finding success with his suggested training program. I loved how simple and straightforward the workouts are. This is all stuff that you should be able to do in an hour at the gym, and there isn't any silly, confusing nonsense. Strength training is really not that complicated. As Matthews explains, so many people are just confused by all of the misguided, contradictory information we're bombarded with.My wife has been going to the gym fairly regularly for the past few years, but her time there hasn't been very organized or focused. Occasionally she would ask me to write out "something to do" at the gym, and she would do that routine for a while. Its good that she has been going, but at some point you need practical advice and a program like Mike Matthews offers here to really get the most out of your time. i.e. Do these things on this day, this number of times, this many weeks, etc;I was really impressed by this book. She won't be asking me to write out "something to do at the gym" anytime soon. The day's training plan is written out clearly, page by page here for the entire year. She is set! More importantly, I was happy to see that she read through THINNER LEANER STRONGER and seems to have picked up a better understanding of both WHAT she is doing and WHY she is doing certain things.Fair warning: I kind of laughed during the first week when she was complaining how tired she was at the end of the day. She couldn't understand it. I had the exact same reaction when I first started Mike's program last year. For a week or so, I was incredibly wiped out at the end of the day. It was very disconcerting because we're both pretty active people and no strangers to the gym. Don't let it slow you down or worry you. My body adjusted and caught up to the new training, and I haven't felt that level of exhaustion since.I can't recommend this book highly enough. Every day I see people at the gym paying $50/hour to have a personal trainer do goofy, not especially effective exercises. For about $20, you can get the two THINNER, LEANER books, save yourself hundreds of dollars through the year and get way more out of your time at the gym. Be patient, follow the advice here and good luck!

I struggled between 4 and 5 stars.I recently purchased this book to start my one year challenge. I've already been weightlifting for a few years. I wanted to really make some better progress. I'm a total fan of Mike's books. I have both his cook books, thinner leaner stronger (on audio) and his fitness myths book.I have really attempted to use the information he provided to change the way I eat even more then I had, and to hone in my fitness routine. After two weeks I am already seeing improvements.The workouts seem easy and pointless but the next day you feel the burn.Just don't forget you have to push yourself to make the progress and be willing to challenge bumping up the weights.My only beef with the book is that it's geared to people with a gym membership. I have a home gym I've been slowly building and refuse to go back to the meat market where you can't get your hands on the good stuff (because of all the Meatheads hogging it while taking selfies)Some of the exercises I simply don't have the equipment for and there is not substitutions or modifications. I've tried to look some up but really.. there is not much I can find to be the equivalent to the leg press. But even so 90% of the exercises I CAN do!My only other beef is there isn't much on Max Rep. You need to know what that is to know where to start with his guide. It took me a little while of research outside his book to really understand that. It's not difficult or anything but kinda the key to unlock the rest of it.Otherwise I highly recommend it for people struggling on what the heck to do for a workout.It's certainly helped me fix my plan, and honestly simplify it.

I love having everything planned out! A years worth of workouts! Come on! That right there is incredible! 3 different splits ( 5,4,3 days) to fit your schedule! Use this with the TLS book and change your body forever! I’m only a few months in and my results have been spectacular!!

I bought this book at the same time I bought Thinner, Leaner Stronger (TLS) and once I bounced around from chapter to chapter I dove right in to lifting heavy. I began lifting (again) in early January and I did make some progress. But once I understood lifting "heavy" I was on a roll. I am only at the end of week two of Phase 1, 5 Day Split and I feel so much better about myself. I feel stronger, healthier from eating right and I am an already down a size in jeans. Lovin it! I lift in the mornings and have found that I am ready to work out again in the evenings and there's been a time or two where I had to keep myself from doing so.If your not sure about it just take the plunge and buy the books. At 61 years old this hard work is already paying off.

Talk about an eye opening experience. How did we not learn any of this in school? Shame. The imagery of the sewer system flushing the perceived worthlessness of life is a heartbreaking one. I'm a third of the way through the book. It's hard to read but entirely necessary.

The hardcover version includes, at the bottom of many pages, the author's notes. These notes should be considered an essential part of the book. They are interesting and designed to enhance and embellish the text. Do not purchase the paperback version, because it does not include those essential notes by the author.Obviously, this book (in hardcover form with the notes) is essential reading-- everyone who is able should invest the time to absorb this important, very moving, stereotype-shattering, great/classic work of non-fiction. According to Wikipedia, since 2009 this book (in Russian) has been required reading by Russian high school students (in Russia).

A must-read for those of us raised in comfort. A reminder that life needn't be (and through most of human history, wasn't) so comfortable. It is a reminder of the dangers posed by Authoritarianism, and a lesson that "evil" is not "out there" somewhere, lurking in a foreign land, but swirling amidst the "good" in the heart of every man. The vagaries of fate and disposition can leave any man as either executor or executed... or both at different times.A few quotes:"If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart? During the life of any heart this line keeps changing place; sometimes it is squeezed one way by exuberant evil and sometimes it shifts to allow enough space for good to flourish. One and the same human being is, at various ages, under various circumstances, a totally different human being. At times he is close to being a devil, at times to sainthood. But his name doesn't change, and to that name we ascribe the whole lot, good and evil. Socrates taught us: Know thyself! Confronted by the pit into which we are about to toss those who have done us harm, we halt, stricken dumb: it is after all only because of the way things worked out that they were the executioners and we weren't.”“Ideology—that is what gives evildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. Governments need victories and the people need defeats. Victory gives rise to the desire for more victories. But after a defeat it is freedom that men desire—and usually attain. I have not finished this book but saw a review that said there were no author's notes in this version of The Gulag Archipelago.This is not true. This version, the red-covered Volume 1 of the Gulag Archipelago DOES have authors notes, and lots of them. However, the abridged version which is by the same publisher and has a similar cover to this book, does not have author's notes obviously. Just clearing up this confusion. This Volume 1 does have the original author's notes.

This is a must read and should be required reading at the universities. Young people need to understand that it is important to truly understand the ideologies that you latch on to as they have very real consequences.

One of the greatest tragedies in the history of mankind, period. The Soviets outdid Hitler and imprisoned and killed around 14 million of their own people. It's mind boggling! And it's true. Sadly, it's still happening, on a much smaller scale, but this system is still in use to this day. Solzhenitsyn has done a wonderful job of collecting numerous prisoner accounts and turning them into a very readable series of literature, despite the danger it brought to him and those close to him. He will always be a hero of mankind, in my eyes.
